AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Warning: Birdhaus content.

Had my first living room bluegrass/indie acoustic jam this past weekend with my new Birdhaus 46. Wasn't quite sure where best to put the cab since we were in a circle, but it sounded great with my ABG (it didn't hurt that I was playing my Guild ABG through a WW blue light). I left it unplugged and it was on the floor in a 10 x 20 foot space. Those 6" drivers are very articulate with quick attack/response, but the dispersion makes the sound nice and round. I'd compare it roughly to a MAS 46 but with wider dispersion rather than punch, and with the AK signature clarity with warmth. Plus, the switchable cheater switch was a nice option to play with the upper end at different times. It also took a fair amount of power (800w - pre was around 10:30-11:00 and post was noon at times), and seemed quite willing to take more, but I didn't try.

Anyway, a big thumb's up all around.

Thanks again, Duke! DM

I have a Birdhaus 4x6 could you show a picture of the "Cheater Switch".

Thanks

Ric

Well, I have sold my markbass lm3 and purchased this fender bassman 500. Loving the Fender.

Which of course has caused a whole new problem - it doesn't sit on top of my tc112 too well!

So I'm wondering what negative effects, if any, something like this might have. And/or if rotating the horns 90deg would make any sort of difference.

Thoughts?

The dispersion is better if the cabs are oriented so that the woofers and horns are vertically aligned.

Consider setting the TC112s side by side and centering the head on both cabs. You might also want to put a wedge under each cabinet to angle them toward your ears.

shucks. thanks fellas.

i have some cringe moments about my playing on that tune. i think the ideas are pretty good, but some of my execution sounds iffy.

overall, i think it's a pretty cool tune. we tracked the keys, bass, drums, steel and guitar in one room. no overdubs that i recall. then all the other stuff put on top. chris has a cool aesthetic and i'm happy that he's included me on some of his work. (also on this disc on bass are anthony shadduck, mike watt, max bennett [!!!] and i think devon hoff. i'll know more when the album drops.) and now done with tmi.
I once got asked to record a bunch of stuff for an album that also featured Mike Watt and Max Bennett.

Sadly, I woke up shortly afterward. I would have liked to share studio space with them, even if only in my dreams...

not in the same room on this one. been on double bills with watt and played in a big improv band one night with him. good dude.

never met max b. kind of a hero of mine when i was 16 or so. funny thing is, he did the session for this alb on a 6-string. kinda freaked me out, as i always think of him as a guy who still uses 62 p-bass with original flats on it.

Does anyone, by chance, have a Hathor (Preferably a 212) that they would want to trade for a Thunderchild 212 (v2)?

Well if anyone is itching to order the new changeling 112, and needs to sell their standard 1203 to do so let me know I'm about to put in an order for one from duke but picking up a used one would help me out. Thanks

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective), I'm adding a Changeling to my H1203 rather than swapping.
