While there are some inevitable vulnerabilities in a "speaker/horn facing up design" it's not like bass cabs and amps are waterproof designs in the first place. Concerns like, "what if I need to perform in a car wash" may be legitimate for some, but user discretion is probably a reasonable first line of defense for your gear.

With a design like this I'd keep my cab covered when not in use, and be sure the amp goes on top as soon as the cover comes off. IMO any of the AK cabs with slots on top pretty much deserve a similarly cautious approach, and I find it not the least bit difficult or annoying given the benefits of the design feature. It's always a trade off!

For those with discourteous band mates I might suggest a sign on your cab stating that it's not to be used as a step stool, drink tray, or snack table.

I'm not an official exhibitor, but you can find one of my cabs at the Marco Bass Guitars booth, Hall D, #4211. You will also find Passinwind and at least one of his amps there.

If the Three Stooges were a band, Larry would be the bass player. He makes the other two, Moe and Curly, look good. Their shticks wouldn't work without him. If Larry doesn't show up, rehearsal is cancelled.

What is the lead time on these cabinets, just generally.

Right now, I'd estimate ballpark twelve weeks. So probably not as bad as having a custom bass built, but soitainly a LOT longer than I'd like.

My wife and I talked it over and in a few weeks she'll have the opportunity to start dialing back the time she spends at her regular jobs, and we're going to convert a space into a painting room such that we'll have a glue-up room and a painting room so both can be happening at the same time. She used to do surface-prep and Duratexing back when we lived in Idaho, and she's better at it than me (sorry about that, all my customers over the past two years!). Working together we can probably get those delivery times to come down from "awful" all the way down to merely "bad".

It will be several weeks before she's able to trade a day or two of regular work each week for a day or two of Duratexing delight, but if that goes well, we can probably continue to move in that direction.

reckon if you can keep ship date hovering at 12 weeks after receipt of deposit, you're golden.

How did the upfiring tweeter survive with all the drinks spilled into it?

LOL, although I actually did give the booth slaves a stern lecture about leaving liquids on top of the rig. The booth was extremely cramped this year, with 25+ instruments in a nominal 10 x 10 foot space, including cases, stands, a big table, and the obligatory coffee maker.
