AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

I'm waiting on a cab since last August. Duke's issues with aging parents began around October 2019. I had been communicating with him by email every several months to see how the cab was coming. I know this because I looked through my email and I see that was the first he mentioned these issues to me. All the while, he had offered to refund me my money if that's what I chose to do. But I do trust him and I told him that I did not want a refund unless he was unable to build cabs any longer. The last I inquired and heard back from him was the middle of May. He was out of state dealing with this and did not anticipate that he would be back to build cabs for at least one month, possibly two or longer.

I do not feel comfortable airing other people's personal issues on a forum in a third person position, so that is all I'm going to say here.

Yeah, I'll chime in here too. I had delays and difficulties with my build as well due to Duke's personal situation, but at all times he was nothing but professional, effusive and a stand-up gentleman (doubly so, considering I'm halfway across the world and it's not like I could go see him). Additionally, I had some teething issues after its arrival and again, Duke went overwhelmingly above and beyond to resolve things.

I bring all this up purely to try to help those who are waiting on their orders with baited breath. I'm a perfectly happy customer. Even with all my experience, I have zero regrets and will order another cab from him in a heartbeat (one day, I'll grab a Hathor 1203 as well to finish the 212 stack with the Changeling. Not essential right now). I don't doubt he'll make good on the orders he has.

Just to give everyone an idea of how long Duke's list is ( I am not complaining or worried in the least ), I put a deposit on a Hathor 2x12 in February '19. I have been in sporadic contact with him ( I know you cannot rush perfection ) and have been told the same things as everyone else who has spoken to him above. Someone mentioned ( It might have been Duke himself, I cannot remember ) that Hathor 2x12s were labor intensive and time consuming to build. I emailed him last month and told him I would be willing to accept a Hathor 1506 in lieu of a 2x12 if it would help him get caught up a little bit faster, but I have not received a response to that. As long as he is ok, I can accept the silence. Life is always more precious than stuff, even if it is bass gear.

All I can say is that if there's anyone here that has a special pipeline to Duke (cell phone?), please tell him he really needs to show up here, see all the love and support he has (and calm any nerves), and let us know what's up. It would take less than a couple minutes. Anyone?

I left Duke a message on his cell this morning. Hopefully he will be able to find a few moments to jump on line and let us know how he's doing and where he is with his business.

Duke just sent me an email. He is still in Louisiana helping his parents with health issues and things have been further complicated by the coronavirus as he tries to help them sell their home and move to assisted living.

He is anxious to get back home and resume building cool gear for all of us, but is consumed with doing what responsible kids do for their elderly parents. He mentioned to me that if anyone felt they needed a refund and/or wanted to cancel their order he understands and has processed a few already.

The bottom line here is that Duke didn't run off to never be heard from again and expects (really hopes) to be back soon. Having experienced this myself, I know how all consuming caring for elderly parents can be and in my case my parents were local and I didn't have the COVID-19 complications on top of that.

Very glad to hear that the Man himself is ok. I can’t imagine what stress he’s having to go through and having restless customers will not sit well with him either. He’s an honourable guy and it must pain him to no end. My folks are 86 and 95 and It kills me to not be able to just go and see them.

You will never know what it’s like to step into another man’s shoes.

Dealing with my elderly parents issues and finally their deaths a few years back; settling their estate, etc ....
It can throw you into a real funk!

Life goes on - stops for no one ....
Wishing Duke the best as he deals with his present life issues.
What a great son to be taking this all on ....

One can honestly appreciate the anxiety of waiting for a cab that’s been ordered. Yes, money is tied up, etc ...
But realistically, a bass cab is just a material object -
Duke’s parents are real people, just like the rest of us, going through a rough period right now.

Patience is a virtue!

I haven’t found anything that doesn’t work.
I’ve been mostly using any and all of the Mesa Subway Line lately.

My Hathor doesn't love tube power sections, but I have a good list of solid-state heads that have worked very well. Current favorite:
