This thing can go REALLY low, and be REALLY clear while doing so. I found myself digging the sound of two ports plugged. I can imagine a Dub player going for all four ports open.

Overdrive sounds wonderfully smooth - much better than through tweeter equipped cabs I've used.

I love the sound of the switches in the "full nasty" position - it really sounds the cab's going to cut through a mix. I can't wait to give this thing a spin with the band.

It can get stupid loud without farting out. The limit light was flashing on my Shuttle 9.0, but speakers didn't sound like they were stressed at all. Hopefully the neighbors don't hate me now. :)

To top it off, its a lot easier to move around than I anticipated. The handles on the side plus the holes for the mid chamber make it easy to grab, and whole whole thing only weighs 14 lbs more than one of my old Genz Benz NeoX 112T cabs. I almost always needed a pair of those for anything other than a relatively low volume rehearsal.

More importantly, it sounds incredible. I haven't got a change to explore many of the tonal options yet, but I've never heard a cab approach the clarity and depth this thing has on the low end.

Yes, the clarity and "growl" through the lows is unlike anything I've heard in another cab. And it does the higher lows, midrange, and treble very well, to boot! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :thumbsup:

Thank you very much, Handyman and moorebass and Selta.

I apologize for not being more active here of late; been burning the candle at both ends trying to get as many projects as possible finished and shipped before we move in one week. In a few days I'll have to stop building and start packing.

My wife really liked the way moorebass's cabinet turned out. Personally I'm not a big fan of doing custom colors, as the basic black seems to dry to a bit harder finish, and touchup kits are readily available in the form of one pint trial sizes. Soon as the weather warms up I'll ship moorebass some touchup Duratex, but not just now while we have freezing temperatures because that will ruin the liquid Duratex.

So after moving to Texas and finally getting my household goods delivered and unpacked, I had the opportunity to do the initial testing of my new pair of TC112 cabs. I've only been able to play them at moderate "in the house" levels (driven by my Tecamp Puma 900) for a while but I cranked them up to the point where my son and dogs quickly left the room.

As expected, they're pretty much awesome. Very clear, clean, articulate and LOTS of low end on tap. They live up to the reputation of "how does that much sound come out of a cab that small?" I know they'll warm up and break in after some playing but so far...pretty fantastic. What ever changes I make in technique (especially bad technique!), amp and/or effects settings are revealed with brutal honesty.

Job well done Duke. Fantastic cabs!!

The 1855 can be run with any number of ports plugged, as it has a double-spider suspension so that cone rock doesn't happen. So you would have five different low-end shapes to choose from (0-4 ports plugged). As the number of active ports decreases, the cross-sectional area also decreases but so does the tuning frequency, so you get less airflow demand... point being, I don't think plugging ports significantly increases the likelihood of chuffing.

As for the kicking of tires, I will be shipping a couple of 1855s later this week, right now Duratexing the cabs is held up by the extremely high humidity we're having. So you might wait a bit and see what sort of response those cabs get from their new owners.



Whatever I do in a 15" Hathor cab, and let's assume it's a 1505, it will be designed with the 1203 very much in mind. One of each would give a very modular setup: Use the 1203 for small gigs, the 1505 for medium gigs (in 4-ohm mode, assuming that's an option), and both for large gigs (with the 1505 in 8-ohm mode if your amp's lower limit is 4 ohms).

Another option that might be useful in some situations is to bring both cabs, with the 1505 firing into the house and the 4 dB quieter 1203 aimed wherever you need it onstage.

Excursion-limited power handling will probably be effectively identical, and thermal close enough (the 1505 might be closer to that 550 watt figure).

Duke: I really like the idea of a Hathor 1503 or 1505 with a 4\8ohm switch for the reasons you mention. Really versatile with my 1203, 1203 for the small gigs, 1505 for the medium and both for big or outside shows. Do you have an idea of what the weight might be and when they might be available.

I have to second this. I kind of wish my TC212 was 8 ohm. I'm pretty much positive I would never have experienced thermal shut down with my head the cab were 8 instead of 4. So it goes, it's unlikely I'll have to worry about it under normal rehearsal or gig conditions, but it will now be an itch in the back of my mind whenever I play. If it happens again I'll look into sending the amp back to Demeter to get checked out.
