AudioKinesis Cabs V!!!!

Probably my favorite over all tone has come from years of running a pair of vertically stacked eden d210xlt cabs but, due to some injuries I just couldn't shlep them around anymore so I've been on the hunt ever since. My nv610 is big and heavy but, is still easier to move than the edens. Im really hoping the hathors give me some of what Im looking for. The way Tombowlus describes the mids and growl has me hopeful.

I've been slacking on the Hathor comparisons, I know (Phil Maneri still has my TC112AF and TC115AF), but I'll see what I can do.

I bought the Puma900, love the amp, but I think that having a clean sounding cab and a crystal clear amp it’s just missing something, don’t get me wrong it sound awesome now, but I sometimes think it would sound much better with a little color like the Mark bass amp in order to get the full character of the cab. It just hard to find a Amp that has a punchy lows now that Mark Bass F500 is out of the market.

I'm having pretty good luck with my Aguilar TH500. It is a bit 'dirtier' than the LMII/III, and not as even, but it HAMMERS, and the semi-parametric mid is quite useful with the TC cabs. That being said, it is more 'fat and warm and old school' than 'clear, pure and transparent'. LOVE it with the P Bass, and it really does put a surprising 'pillow under the band' with the little TC115. It roughs up the top of the TC cabs a bit, which is a good thing IMO with the P.

The F500 brings out more of the studio monitor vibe, which I love with my J. The Glockenklang is too much of a good thing for me with the TC115... big, open, wide, smooth, clean pure meets... well.... big, open, wide, smooth and clean:p

Chiming in here to give Duke a Texas-size high five for that 1512 cab. I've been modeling and messing with 2-ways using guitar drivers for mids and highs. If I make them the footprint of my big Classic400 tube amp, the cabs get too big and I have to use styrofoam or something to artificially shrink the box, especially when modeling sealed 15's and even some ported ones. I never even thought to mount the drivers one behind the other and honestly didn't even know if you could without causing some sort of interference between the 2.

Brilliant work Duke. I assume with the highs leading the lows it sounds nice, at least from what I've read on stuff like how our brain interpets time delays, etc.

I do, but it's also a live Youtube vid, with an overdriven VT Bass in the signal, in a heavier context that I'm not sure many people here play... the Aguilar by itself is less clangy and "growly," and the VT Bass by itself is thin and a little scooped on that setting. Together they compliment each other nicely.

Awesome yo!! The bass was it in that song for sure. Great Tone. Ruff but articulate. Very clear with the perfect amount of grunt.

Before putting in an order for a pair of Hathor cabs, I was really torn between them and a pair of baer ml112 cabs. I think that with my goals in mind, the Hathors were a good choice. I wanted light, high output cabs, growly mids, clear but not harsh treble, focused sound. The 1544 should do that better than anything else.

I know these are in a different price range than the TH 500 but you may want to consider the Thunderfunk 550B. I have seen them used for around 700. Not to heavy at 20 pounds. I played it with the 750a also but I like the 550b better with it. When the limiter on it gives a very tight bottom. A four band semi parametric and Timbre control warms up the amp nicely. A nice combination with a TC15.
With minimal tweaking you can get a very close Aguilar DB750 without the immense power but lighter. But if weight is an issue than the Th 500 would probably work well for you.

Have you messed with the taste and eq? Rolling the taste clockwise doesn't give crystal clear any more.

I agree, the Puma sounds great with other cabs, but I think that with the incredible transparency and neutrality that the TC115AF has, that little bit of furry midrange in the TH500 helps the sound punch through in a very musical way.

Your rig sounded killer the other night man, the low B string on the Alien Audio was incredible through the TH500/TC15

Based on your description, I probably wouldn't recommend the TH500 for you. The TH500 has a fat, warm low end and low mids. The high mids are fairly present (though less so than the low mids), and the high end is somewhat attenuated.

'Old school' wouldn't be the first term I'd use to describe it, but I guess it does lean that way. It's got a ton of low-end punch, but it can sound a bit tubby in some environments in certain cabs. In addition, with the way the highs are rolled off, it would be hard to call the top end 'clean'.

Based on my amp experience, the heads that I'd say come close to meeting your description would be the original 2U Puma500 (and to a lesser extent, the newer Puma900, which I know you already have), a LMII/III, or a Thunderfunk 750.
