AudioKinesis Cabs V!!!!

Here is Tom's quote. Im sure he wouldn't mind.

Okay, I played the Hathor next to the ML112 again tonight, this time using the F500 to drive them both. Man, the Hathor just has a lot more midrange presence, including what I would call the lower mids. The ML112 sounds more pristine and almost scooped in comparison. The lows hit harder on the ML112, but you can EQ the Hathor to match. The highs were more clear and pristine on the Baer, and there was definitely more growl and "hair" with the Hathor

Just got back from NAMM, and no, I don't mind at all! :D

I just posted a youtube clip of the nv610 and the hathor is loading. It takes a really long time. Maybe Im doing something wrong. I'll make a video of the extremely awsome Xsonics CF212 soon as well as the lds 8x10. Heres a link to the nv610.

I should have used a different setting on the cameras limiter. The low end really doesn't come through.

Late to the Hathor party here, but I gotta say, that is the coolest looking cab I've ever seen. And the build quality looks first rate.

Duke's the man for sure!

Nice playing, Chris, and thanks. Gotta say, imho, I like the Berg over the Hathor. Nice solid, chunky sound, a little more darker, definitely more punchy. I had never heard one before, but I would sure like to play through one now !

NICE! While the overdrive thing is not my thing, I was impressed with the nice deep low end response, and actually the crisp hi end, with the grunge sitting right where it should in the middle of the tonal range. Nice when you dialed down the crispness at the end of the overdrive clip. That sounded great.

I like these sort of clips (especially the high quality sound of the Q3 type recordings) as much for the gear demo thing as giving the reader of reviews and comments posted by you and me and other guys who post a lot about gear a nice context..... what is the skill level of the poster/reviewer, what is his/her tone goal, etc.

VERY nice! Hathor sounds great.

+1 That NV610 sounds friggin' PERFECT for Chris's tonal approach and playing style. I love Duke, but I LOVE Jim Bergantino. The only two cab designers I gig any more.

Overall I prefer the NV610. Im glad that the punch came through. It does hit harder but, it should. I've thought about having don build me a pair of 3x10 sealed cabs for the drivers but, then it's two trips so, probably not a great idea. The xsonics cab is next and it sounds really good. I think you will like it Ken. It has more of the punch of the berg and alittle clearer. AND, it's a one trip, one handed carry cab. It's breaking in at home right now. Im really sick today but, when I get home maybe I'll make the video before my wife gets home.

Feel better. I know nothing about those cabs, so I look forward to it.

And +1, the NV610 is about three times the size and weight of the Hathor, so duh I guess, but man, that cab sounds magnificent, and I guess is considered a lightweight solution for the fridge guys:p Everything is relative!

Thanks for posting the videos Chris, as now I can see (and hear) what people like so much about the Bergantino NV610. Awesome sounding cab.

Somewhat related, the "other 115" that I've been working on is going back into revision... but there's something else coming along...

Oh no you didn't! :smug: The Hathor is a seriously cool cab Duke and you did a great job with it. The woofer and mids really blend together well. I think the 3015 driver would have worked well in the design as, I hear it as having more native punch. Just good stuff.

Werent you getting two of them? Two Hathors may hit as hard or harder and would weigh less than the NV610

Duke has engineered another fantastic cab, the Hathor sounds great.

That being said:

Dude, seriously........I just got rid of my big heavy cab.......why ya gotta go making me want another one? Your nv610 clip is killer!

One of them developed some issues in shipping so Duke actually paid to have it shipped back. Im just going to keep the one Hathor. For a loud gig I would rather just roll in the nv610. For a smaller gig, the Hathor would more than cover it. I've decided that it's either got to be one little cab or one big cab for gigs. Again, I have no complaints with the Hathor. It sounds so good, is so well built, light, versatile. It give me something else to use when I want different tones but doesn't stray away from my tone goals. Now, if Duke could get the fullness of the nv610 with the top end of the Hathor, I may just sell off everthing else.

A few things here. When I use a single woofer cab like the hathor, I always notice that there is way more lows and low mids off axis, even 15 degrees. This isn't just a perceived thing like psyco-acoustics. It's real. With multidriver cabs like the nv610, that fullness is the same in front as off to the side. It must have something to do comb filtering and harmonic distortion, etc. Even with the 3015 loaded 2x15 I had (which was a damn awsome cab) I found myself cranking up all kinds of hi bass and low mids to get that effect and it still wasn't quite there. Im starting to think that there really is no way of getting that effect unless you have drivers in the 4x4 or more orientation. Im probably wrong, it's just that nobody has done it yet. My lds 8x10 with one vertical columb of 10's low passed at 500hz even has it.

The second thing is, I should probably stop comparing everything to sealed cabs but, compare them to the nv610. It's a sealed cab but, those drivers a tweaked in such a way that they really trample other cabs. I've run my dbx driverack eq wizard on several cabs and after it eq's your cab to a flat state, you basically are looking at a photo negative of your cabs tonal profile. The nv610 has bumps at 80hz, 160hz 320hz, a bigger spike at around 1.6khz, dips down on it's way to 3k and then plunges down, a narrow spike at 5k and then disappears. Thats formula for punchy, growly rock tone. I think what is happening down low is a bunch of harmonics caused by the side by side drivers. That drop off and then a narrow 5k spike is also why it's a dark cab but, if you crank of the treble, it can get clacky. The spike then becomes a laser death ray.

OH, I think the clips of the nv sound pretty good too but, in a live setting it will sound alittle less bright due to many factors. The clip sounds pretty much like what I am after but, in real life it's a bit darker up top than the clip suggests.

..except for the 412 which whoops it! :hiding:
