JGR, the nv412 is actually the better cab of the two but, I just love the compressed sound of the nv610. The 412 went lower and higher. Just a monster. Thats the cab where I should have had Don build two small sealed 2x12's and used the berg drivers.

OK. Finally got to use my TC115 composite compact in a loud rock situation last night. Hitherto, I have only gotten to gig it with my jazz group on the upright (which was amazing, FYI) Last night was a rehearsal with a new band I am starting to play with. Two electrics and a loud drummer and I had NO problem hearing myself all night. Best of all, I could hear the full spectrum of my tone coming through. I am so not used to that. I am used to having to dial in extra bass or high end to punch through the band. For me, the high end on this cab is simply perfect. The notes were clear and just a little grindy the way I like, with the drive control and gain at 12 oclock on my TH500. I didn't even have the master volume on my TH500 past 10 oclock, and I was loud enough to be heard by all, but not overwhelming. Powerful and punchy, but not boomy. (Great head for this cab IMHO) Great job to Duke and Mike. So glad I got mine while the loudspeaker was still available.

Nice clip. Never really played with an overdrive sound but I appreciate the players like yourself who do it well. I like the caparisons but it is a 610 compared to a 115 and 2 4's.
I thought the Audiokinesis handled it well. I do like the clean sound from the Hathor. I was surprised how bright the little 4's can be as in most cases its the cabinets with 10 that are brighter. The Berg does sound massive but the little guy I thought kept up to a point.
Great video and i thought you did a good job playing many different styles and sounds. To bad the other one went back. I think two Hathors would be pretty massive as well.
PS very sick today also, all of New York is seeing cold weather. Next year a flu shot.

Thanks man. The Hathor is really a great cab. And lets be serious, it would kill most any 15 loaded cab I've ever used as far as volume and sounds better than any of them. I mean that. .............Yes, I know the fearful's would put out more overall volume because of the low end, but they don't have the same lowmid punch and focus. The mids and highs aren't as smooth and sweet either. The point is, I can get the tones I want with just this cab and my amp. I don't need all kinds of extra eq, hpf, etc. Great cab.

I think the 3015 driver would have worked well in the design as, I hear it as having more native punch.

Seriously, I very much appreciate your feedback. I went with the Faital in part because it's available in both 4 and 8 ohms, but I'm going to try the 3015 in the cab you're sending back. Will have to tweak the circuits a bit, but I can probably handle that.

Now, if Duke could get the fullness of the nv610 with the top end of the Hathor...

Okay I need another challenging project like I need a hole in the head, but theoretically I'm halfway there with the top end of the Hathor, right?? Okay, maybe more like 1/4th of the way there, but I try to listen to my customers who know more about what bass players want than I do (which is pretty much all of you guys, but Chris you've really devoted yourself to the pursuit, and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me very much).

When it comes to knowledge, my thimble runnith over. I mean that I don't know very much. But, I do love good bass tone so, I'll always be watching your cabs. The 3015 is a step in the right direction I think but, there probably is alot going on with distortions adding up, etc. which equates to a thick bass tone that I don't know anything about, or even how to describe intelligently. Thats why big brains and bass players get together at parties, drink some beverages and come up with the next big thing.

Nice playing. I play with a clean tone and simple configuration but appreciate the complexities that your rack gear adds. You nailed the Sheehan tone there in the berg video. I would probably Go with the Hathor based on your videos but I think my ML 112s sit somewhere in the middle of those samples fwiw.

Thanks Saluki! I go for that sheehan type tone but, I like a tighter, punchier lowmid sound where, he gets something alittle bigger and looser. Yeah, the whole point is to show how my cabs are different but, still in the same family. I mean really, I always use the same bass and amp, and I kind of sound the same with whatever gear Im using but, having the right gear really focuses in on what Im trying to do. No fighting the gear.

As far as the rack goes, my basic sound is the stambaugh bass (upgraded clone of my billy sheehan basses), blue steel strings, boss lmb3, voodoo lab sparkle drive and the genz. The other stuff is for extra distortion, wireless, noise gate, tuner, power and of course my awsome custom di rack used mostly for in-ears but is really great for FOH when I use it. I could show up to a gig with my bass, the lmb3 and a shuttle 9.0 and be done. And I have plenty of times. I just like having the little extras. When my band does it's acoustic rock gig instead of the loud electric gig I usually do bring the rack because of the di and wireless.

I just finished a makeover on my main bass. My back's been bugging me more than usual lately, so I carved off just over a pound and a half. It's under 10lb now, and much more resonant.

Last night at an acoustic trio rehearsal, it absolutely sang through my G-K MB800 and TC112 AF.

I have never been as happy with my tone, in over 40 years of playing out. The Keyboard player, himself an accomplished bassist, tried it out and said that my bass is in a world all by itself.

Everyone on this thread knows what he doesn't know: that my cab is at least half of the secret.

I agree with you very much about the cabinet. Here's my latest Thunderchild story. I've recently joined a new band and went to rehearse with them in an in-home studio. Rehearsal went well and was low volume where tone could really be heard. As I was leaving the husband and wife who owned the studio were talking back and forth and I overheard, "Did you hear his tone? We've gotta get a rig like that."
In a pristine listening environment, people with good ears were able to tell there was something special going on even if they didn't know what it was.

P.S. The bass was my $199 Ibanez SRX3, the amp the LMlll.

Actually I feel a lot less stress when I mod this one, than I do with commercial instruments. It takes forever to remove large amounts of maple or bubinga with hand tools, so there's not that constant fear of lopping off too much.

Besides, as one of my friends used to say to his daughters, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out"...

Nope. There is now a truly AWESOME 212 version, as well as the 112.

Same general tonal character, but with two drivers, Duke can unleash the horn a little more. The taller cab gets the drivers closer to your ear, for an excellent on-stage listening experience.

User reports indicate that it kicks butt in a big way. I almost wish I played in a louder band, so I could justify one.

Has anyone ordered a cover for the TC115 from Lecover? I need to get a one and thought I'd check to see if their specs are right on the money.

And the reason I need a cover is because my bunji cord as rubbed the finish off in one place. So the next question is, what can be used for touch up?

I have. I would still HIGHLY recommend measuring and sending exact specs though. With these custom cabs, they tend to change a smidge over time (exact handle placement, top handle option or not, composite versus wood, etc.). Larry did a great job with mine based on the measurements I sent.

If the finish issue is small, I'd use a permanent magic marker...easy, quick, and works pretty well on a shiny black spray on finish. If it is large, I'd contact Duke or Mike (depending who made your cab) for a bit of touch up paint.

You can either fax him a drawing with the exact measurements on the picture, or just give him the measurements in an email. For example:

Heigh 20", depth 15", two handles (5" high by 3" wide), placed 3" from the back of the cab and 6" from the bottom of the cab on each side, etc., etc.

I guess the concern is that I read somewhere that someone said that after ordering they wished they had added space to the actual dimensions for a less snug fit. So I was just wondering if anyone had any after thoughts about adjustments they wish they had made.

Larry will do that automatically, but things can still get messed up a touch if you don't clearly state what you are measuring.

The trouble comes in sometimes with cabs with the large, plastic stackable corners. You need to communicate if you are measuring from the 'wood' or from the outside of the plastic corners (which can be up to 1/2" different).

I've only had one mess-up (just a communication issue between Larry and his shop manager) in all the covers and years I've been using LeCover, and Larry had a new cover to me within a week.
