I may have missed it in this thread but what issues were you having with the old Avatar xover in your cab? Did you buy it new from Dave or used?

I'm still using my 4 ohm cab with the old xover only with my GB Stm-900 head now, a P5 w/flats and I'm really using some low C's-open B's and pretty big volume, no PA support for me. I run my tweeter @ 9:00. No hiss from my cab, ever.

I'm not having any issues close to what another TBer described to me in a PM awhile back. I mean his cab seemed totally un-useable from the start. I've had nowhere near that issue. And I think I narrowed it down the "noise" to the GB head breaking up through my cab at certain gain/mids knob settings. But again, wondering if the new xover is something I should look into?

I got my new in June of this year. When I back off those knob settings on my 900 that make my cab kinda distort/breakup abit, that noise never occurs again.

As I stated earlier in this thread, I was told the new xover "will not improve my cab audibly". Some here seem to think it has. But then if they were having problems before, I imagine it would improve their cabs. ;)

So yeah, I'm giggin mine regularly. I just installed 4" rubber casters on it and it now sits up where I can hear it abit better. Plus its a breeze to move about. So no issues here either. In another thread, waiting to hear if anyone has tried the Ampeg PF500/350 heads with this cab to see how they match up.

Hey, sorry for the late response. I acutally blew out two Avatar crossovers in this cab. I bought the cab new, and the original crossover thankfully survived a few key gigs, but then blew in a rehearsal. The replacement blew in a gig. I don't have the technical knowledge of what actually happened, but know they're definitely busted.

The Eminence crossover seems just fine, but makes the tweeter super hissy. When I turn the Lpad off completely, the hiss disappears.

Interesting thought on building my own true fEarful 15/6....but my speaker in the 4ohm version. Do you think I could still do it?

Seems to me that it would be worth it. And if it were me, if any of the xovers sounded better than the others, I would just rebuild them with heavier duty/higher voltage components. The 3015LF is going to sound better in a proper enclosure no matter what-well, not no matter what, but at least in a fEarful enclosure it should be better.

I was just thinking that if he used all his existing parts, the proper enclosure would be a step up. And making the cab isnt very expensive. The 4ohm 3015LF should still sound good in a fEarful enclosure. I havent seen a spec sheet, but I believe the parameters are close, so a real fEarful cab should work better than the Avatar.

I don't think this is actually the case on the 6nd410...believe Greenboy's 4 ohm 3015LF in the pipes will still use an 8 ohm mid. Not positive though.

I see what you're saying...just pop all my existing components into a fEarful cabinet. Yes, that could be a good way to go. I like it. In fact, I've been looking at a cabinet in the marketplace here on TB that has been listed for ages with no bites. I am tempted.

Pretty sure Burning Skies was right in saying that you would have to redesign greenboy's CBG crossover to get it to work properly with a 4 ohm 3015LF. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Besides the newer xover Avatar is using in the TB153? Cuz as I stated in this thread, Trevor says using their newer xover in my cab will not offer any audible improvement.

Now if its' a more resilient/hardy-er xover; that might be of interest to me. But again, no issues with the xover presently in my cab. :hmm: Guess if it burns out I'll have to consider something else at that time.

Joe Sm... keep us posted if you alter your cab in any way that improves it.

I was just so proud to be able to make my own Speakon speaker cables awhile back. And that was only by removing 1/4" plugs from my existing cables. :rollno: No skills at all. :hmm:

Advantage of a fEarful 15/6/1 over a TB153

1. Smaller form factor
2. Lighter weight
3. maybe a little better lows and mids .

The TB53 sounds great to me the way it is . The only reason I would build the 15/6/1 would be the size and weight and I might do that next summer for a project . I have the 8 ohm 3015lf in mine so I could use Greenboys crossover . My Avatar has the Eminence crossover in it and I don't see any reason to try and reinvent it , unless it breaks down I'm happy with it . As far as upgrading the components on the Eminence crossover to more robust ones the caps and resistors are labeled but the coils are not .

I'm with BurningSkies on just building a 15/6/1 from scratch if you want a fEarful . Greenboy put a ton of time and thought into how each part of the cabinet works with the other parts . Trying to use parts from one cab to the other that aren't the exact parts that Greenboy uses is just taking away from what works best .

I love the TB153 just the way it is . I think the mids and low end are superb and the cab is still light enough for my 60 year old back to lug around . Like I said at the start of my post the weight and size difference would be the only reason for me to change from the Avatar .
