I have a couple 8Ω TB153 cabs. I will provide a review after some break-in time. They sound excellent so far, and I may get two more of them since my big amp has 4 output jacks.

EDIT: Okay, the speakers are broken in a bit. See post #67

I asked Avatar (Dave) about this, but my requested was denied for a baffle reversal.

Update: Avatar is sending me a new driver today at no charge. I sent the blown cone to Eminence. If they determine it was defective (not a fried voice coil) I will not be charged for the replacement. Good, prompt service:p.

My eq was pretty tame: passive Fender 5er with maxed vol/tone, bass controls at noon, mids (250Hz) boosted to 1:30 o'clock, 2.5Mhz boosted to 2 minutes past noon and that's it. Gain was at 2 o'clock and master at 11 o'clock. She was silly loud and cutting perfectly. I emailed Avatar this am about a replacement driver. Bummer, I really wanted to try this at my gig Sat. Now the LDS 15/6 will get the call. Good thing I still have both:p

I swear that I tried to request this, but I was told that they could only send me "[two of] the same exact cab". Hopefully, in the future, the horn and mid will be nearer to each other and the reverse baffle will be available.

I suppose that it doesn't matter a whole lot. I could stack the bottom cab on it's side and the top cab upside down to get the mid drivers near each other, and then just use only one tweeter.

First gig with the 153 / M9 / P Bass last Saturday. After a few low frequency feedback issues (not me!) got to open it up a bit. First set with a bit of PA support, second set without PA. M9 on Voice #2 and everything set at 12:00. Gain at 12:00 and master at about 9:30. Started out the the pad control about 50%. Dialed it back just a bit after the first couple songs and wandered in the crowd for a couple tunes to get their perspective. The sound was full, but not boomy at all. Plenty of low end that was fairly tight. It didn't sound quite as full on the lows as my Low B-2s, but not far off. Once I dialed the pad back a bit, the mids & highs were just right for my ear and I like plenty of clarity to the notes. The root notes sat perfectly and the mids & highs sang nice & clear. I have the 8 ohm version and had tons of headroom with the M9. The second set I kicked the volume up a hair and could hear the bass just fine out in the crowd.

This will be the perfect one cabinet solution for almost every place I play. It is definitely fuller than a single Acme ... maybe not as full & loud as two of them but considering it's not four 10's, I'm really impressed. I can only imagine how nice two of these cabs will sound ... might have to add another just for grins!!

I was just about to ask how you determined the driver was in fact blown? Just cause many say how they came to that conclusion here.

Also, so what's the fix for you? Gotta just back off the gain or you gonna need to try another head. I gotta bunch 210/410/212 cabs and I used to use 15"s alot. But this TB153 cab sounds like its made to be a full range, single use cab at 4 ohms I'd gather. I'm liking using two 8 ohm cabs these days, no PA support for me in a couple bands, but that cab looks/sounds pretty nice.
Maybe two @ 8 ohms each will do her. Just doesn't seemed designed to be used that way; as 2x15's that is.

Update. Avatar was super nice and said: "just keep the new replacement driver and Dave will take your old one for home personal use. Eminence tested your old driver and it's fine". So I unstall the new driver and try it with a different head and bass.....and the problem is worse:rollno: Now I'll probably have to send the whole box back.....I'll call Avatar tomorrow. Maybe it's the xover???? I dunno, just really frustrated. At least I know it's the cab.

but I had a similar issue a few months ago, staticky-distort in a cab. Short story, turned out one of my new speakon cable ends had the wire ends loose under the screw inside the connector. I tightened the wires back down with the tiny screw and issue resolved. I just never considered a new speaker cable was at issue. And finally found it by process of elimination.

Check everything with different cables-basses-heads, etc. and then check the insides of all those too if issue remains. Good luck.
