I haven't ordered my cab yet (only because I'm pending the sale of some other items) but I did order my GK MB500 which is going to power it! It's currently backordered, but I had a coupon for $100 off, so I just bit the bullet and bought it, thinking that was the greatest deal I was going to get.

I have yet to decide what route to go to get my bass guitar and key-bass (L/R hopefully) into it in the best, simplest, most flexible way, so I don't constantly have to step on something to switch between them.

I ordered the same head. I am waiting on mine too. It was hard to pass @ $399. I already have my TB153 though. Just waiting to put old GK on top of it. What is the general consensus of "breaking in a speaker?" Is it necessary? Excuse my ignorance and thread de-rail, but I have never owned a new cab and don't want to ruin my TB153.

B15/10/1 Prototype bass cab. Black tolex, black metal grill. one 15 inch
Eminence top of the line NEO kappalite 3015LF, one 10 inch Celestion TF1020
bass speaker, one Foster Horn tweeter. The 8 ohm 15" and 8 ohm 10" are in
parallel to make a standard 4 ohm bass cab. Both bass speakers share the
same chamber. This prototype sounds very good. We only have two and we're
keeping one for our music room. $369 plus $55 shipping (same dimensions
as our TB153)

Two steps forward, one step back apparently. This makes no sense whatsoever, unless you're looking for a cab designed to blow speakers and distort unnecessarily quickly.

Edit: wait...Isn't this the cab proto that they were working before the TB153 was suggested/produced, etc? These are probably the original cabs that fueled the thread that ended up in the new 3 way cab design.

sorry if i am asking questions that have been answered(I have a headache and my eyes burn from reading this thread) I am in the market for a 2x15 to put under my lmiii, if i were to pick up 2 8 ohm versions of this cab there might be phasing issues because the horns are'nt close enough together and don't line up right? how would the avatar compare with the carvin LS1503? would single 4 ohm versions of either one of these pair well with lmiii and hold up to a heavy hitting roots rock, rockabilly drummer? I apologize for my technical ignorance,I really like my lmiii and just want to find a good cab with a 15 or 2 to pair with it. The avatar is a sharp looking cab!

Small issues, but yes. Order the 2nd one with a reverse baffle, or stack sideways as pictured about 10 posts back.

how would the avatar compare with the carvin LS1503?
2 Carvins shipped = $620, 1 Avatar $505. Avatar should be slightly better in every way (benefitting as they did from all of Greenboy's free labor) esp. resale. Although not fair to the original owners, it's hard to practically give-away Carvin & Peavey cabs, imho

You can't get the LS1503 in a 4ohm version. The latest reports from trusted T.B. members claim an 4-ohm TB153 is at least as loud as the BEST 4x10's and even 4x12's on the market. ymmv.

I would like to know this as well. I have a hard time believing all the fuss about the fearful being a loud cabinet that is the be-all end-all of bass cabs. My experience with 3 way PA cabs is that the crossover itself is going to dissipate some of your watts with its inductors. There is also the "motor math". A 4x10 or 4x12 just has a lot more magnets and paper to push air. I've tried to read the threads on the fearful but there are about a dozen, which are all a dozen pages or more long. Mostly just people posting pictures of the ones they made, and their internet friends gushing about how cool they look.

Well, first of all, its not a PA cab. Its a bass specific enclosure. It has been used as a PA cab, but that wasnt what it was designed for. Second, it uses drivers with neodymium magnet structure which also gives it a leg up on the competition. Putting that all together with the extensive R&D that GB has put into it and you do have a cab that shifts the normal paradigms.......

My band uses a pair of the Carvin 3 way cabs and so obviously I have plugged into one of them before and it was not what I would call a "great" tone. The TB153 sounds WAY better to my ears - and my band mates. I can only imagine what a fEarful sounds like, but I have neither the time nor desire to fabricate one, or the money to pay someone else to do it.

The main thing the fEarful should have is louder mids and smoother off-axis response. The low end should be very similar, e.g. everything under 600-700hz or so.

The low end is just so awesome with this cab, so deep and controlled. On the flip side of that, to have that deep controlled low end while still having very clear and articulate upper freq is icing on the cake. :D:bassist:

^ I too have 2 unanswered emails to Don about fEarful prices in the last month, but he quoted me on another product the month before. They're likely swamped revamping their line in response to the Avatar buzz? I also heard that calling him is best too? (THX lomo for the detailed pm last week too!)

Displacement. It takes 2 3012lfs to equal a 3015lf. 496cc for a single 3012, 856cc for a single 3015. You get more power handling with a pair of 12's, but don't gain very much in terms of output. Dual driver cabs with these speakers are mostly useful if you really need a 4 ohm cab because you don't have enough horsepower at 8. 4 BP102's are just barely a match in displacement for a 3015. At least until the 3010lf shows up, tens can't compete.

Don was out of town for awhile ( Seattle ) visiting family, but now is back in his shop. And there is no " they " at LDS. Don is a one man shop and does them one at a time. Also, there is no " line " of cabs - Don is a custom design builder. Good idea to call, though.

Are there any wattage ratings on the TB153? I didn't see any on site or this thread.

I've tried it (8 ohm) w/my Shuttle 9.0, it is loud at 500 watts, but I was wondering if my Crown XLS1500 @ 1050 watts could drive it better or hurt it.

Also, I seem to get high pitched feedback with my jazz bass (fender) if I get too close, is this a problem?

Hey TB153 owners, any updated reviews? I was curious to see if you all were still happy with the purchase and if the cab opened up after break in. Some gig stories would be great. This thread lost some steam, I assume it was due to the temporary backorder of 4 ohm units.

Yeah, I have spoken to him on the phone a few times before. He just hasn't been answering lately. I hope everything's alright.
