I'm kinda skeptical of "anecdotal evidence". As much as we may try to be objective we often love whatever we have because it smells new and we spent 2 weeks pay on it. I'm as guilty of this as anyone!

Heh. The new wore off of my 15/6 more than a year ago (coming up on two years actually). Again, If you want to take the time to 'drill down' (one of my least favorite corporate speak terms), you'll see that people beyond 'flavor of the day' users are finding that these are efficient cabs. Again, you don't have to believe it if you don't want...feel free to just keep using your Mesas.

For a long time users have been fighting the notion that you need a lot of wattage to power any of these designs. You don't.

Again, feel free to keep on keeping on with what you have. ;)

At some point in time, especially for those of us who dove into the deep end of the pool with the fEARful designs when Greenboy was formalizing the plans, we had to take an initial leap of faith that what appeared on paper translates to what we hear. It does.

Although the 'crossover will eat my wattage' argument is a new one to the discussion certainly.
 
Good take Burning Skies. I run my 600 watt amp with the pre amp gain at 50% and the master volume at about 35%. I am not sure how many watts this translate into, but I doubt it is more than 375 or 400 and it is throwing massive bottom with that amount of power input.

For nearly a year I used a single 8ohm 15/6 with a LMII with a grand total of about 300w of power and did plenty of gigs without a problem. I decided that I wanted to go all out and do the 15/sub too...just because I could. So that give 250w into each cab...and the thing is loud. No doubt that its WAY louder and cleaner and lower than my old 15/2x12 rig, and well louder than any 8x10 I've ever used, and I've used the usual suspects for backline.

I am not having this issue at all, in fact I have usually ended up with the feeling of "this is not all it's cracked up to be syndrome" right from the start on many things. I either get rid of em or learn to accept it. This cab for me has been all smiles at the start and still going.

All that leaves is either you try one or you don't. I hate everything, seriously. I've been gigging one or another of these designs for four years now. I'm migrating away simply because all of 'em are overkill for my playing situations. ;)

I spec the good stuff for fEARful crossovers. If I was using teensy little coils on the crossover design like some companies are doing there'd be some measurable and vaguely audibly perceptible insertion loss. But even with those toy crossovers often spec'd by commercial cab sellers, the insertion loss for a "dedicated mid driver" design is not especially significant unless amps are of borderline suitability. Duty life issues probably matter just as much when crossovers are low-spec'd - power handling over the longer term. Still, even in those cases, the insertion loss is still probably less than the acoustic SPL / power response loss exhibited by a 410 or 610 cab simply because of driver/baffle placement issues.

yes it's true, I work for a major amplifier and cabinet manufacturer. Now that I have been found out we will have to go to plan "B". Dont walk near any open windows.
I will probably be exiled to the accessories department of a GC in outer Mongolia for my failure to derail the spread of fearful designs and their derivatives. You will of course be able to read about this on wikileaks in a few years.
 
They're outsourcing EHX stuff from Siberia to Outer Mongolia? Hang on to yer old ones, Comrades ! ;)

so if you applied 120watts to a 15/6 would you actually get 60watts to the LF driver and 60watts to the HF driver.

If that actually happened in real life the sensitivity of the 15/6 is decent enough to hit 115dB at 120 watts.

IF you ditch the crossover and lose the 140 buck 6.5 inch
a Eminence 3015 will hit around 118dB at 120 watts.

If you spend the 140 bucks on another 3015 you got to throw in a extra 20 bucks, and that 20 bucks will buy you almost a extra 7dB. Or 2x3015 at 120 watts is 120/122dB

Most likely something around 120watts input would have 5 to 10 watts loss to the crossover. and over a 1/2 hour or 1 hour time period, losses would increase from heat.
