Avatar or Greenboy?

Here is a different approach... get the avatars you can afford now and buy used. THen save your pennies and buy the parts you need to buy to build a fEARful. It might take a while, but you'll get there and it will be worth it. My first build I had a furniture maker make my cuts for me and he did an excellent job, saved me alot of work and the cab went together really easily... all for $40 (for the cuts).

Raj has the means to buy the Greenboy.

But, to his credit, and sometimes detriment, he is always after the best deal.

This entire thread is because I bet him $50 that Greenboy would be the preferred choice. :roflmao:

Ha! You are a funny fellow! This is true that we have a bet. But also I want the best that I can buy for my money. Isn't everyone? It is silly to spend more than you have to for only a name. If Greenboy is really worth it, then I will buy Greenboy. And not ugly yellow like Ritchie's Mark Bass! I think that most would agree to spend only what they must to get the job done.

My friend and I are both wanting to buy new cabinets. He is saying to buy Greenboy only. I am wanting Avatar. Greenboy are very good and expensive. Avatar are also good and cost much less. I am getting two and almost three cabinets from Avatar for the same money are only one Greenboy! Ok, here is the question. What is your opinion of this? Which choice would you make and why?
I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I don't think you need a Greenboy cab if you are playing loud rock n roll with a loud band. Who is going to know that you spent 1500 dollars on a single speaker cabinet? The listeners won't know the difference. Unless your tone and technique are showcased like Jaco or something, how in the world does anybody need something like a Greenboy cab? No disrespect intended..

Well Raj, you’ve been hustled.

I’ve never heard either cab, but regardless of which cabs are being compared, Greenboy cabs are always the answer. Make sure Ritchie chips in $50 towards your first 12/6.

No way! I need fudgsicles!!

Yo Raj Mahal... There is really no comparison between Avatar and fEarful. I have owned a few different avatars and they are great bang for the buck but... You get a taste of a 12.6 or 15.6 and there is no going home again... The fEarfuls cabs seem expensive when you compare to Avatar or GC for that matter... Not so much when you compare Aguillar, Bergantino... And that is a much more valid comparison.

I don't what either of your budgets are, but I built a 15/6/1, and now a year or two later I'm building a 12/6/1 cube. You save a LOT of money building it yourself, and it's a lot of fun.

The 15/6/1 is incredible and works flawlessly, and it's the first real woodworking project I've done.
If I can do it, you can probably do it better. I am not known as a handy guy. If you're not confident, you can buy a kit with all the wood cut and the crossover assembled. Check out speakerhardware.com .

In addition to the great sound, it's a great feeling to play an earth-shaking groove and realize it's coming out of something you built yourself.

I appreciate that everyone believes in my ability to assemble a workable cabinet myself.

But, it's much more than a case of sucking at woodworking.

I also live in a condo. With no garage. So, no room.

I work in a crematory. Not the place you want anything made of wood. :woot:

I built my two Greenboy 15Subs in my living room. Sawing, glueing, Duratexing, the whole nine yards. Kept the shop vac handy. Turned out great.

See you say that, but in my experience they do notice.

For similar money I'd suggest a 15" Greenboy design. The 3015LF and 3012LF speakers are surprisingly similar in cost...the OP seems concerned to the the 'most' for his money so I'd say that if he's in the price range of the single woofer cabs the 15 loaded boxes will give him the most for his money in terms of volume.
