Avatar Owner's Club - part 3

Just got a B115 last week.

Only had the chance to jam on it solo. I've got band practice later this week. It seems way more responsive than my other cabs. It's a hell of a lot lighter too!
I'm a happy guy!

I'm GASsing for Avatar so bad right now... any suggestions? I'm looking for versatility and modularity. I have a VT Bass deluxe, and I like GK heads. At the moment, I'm only playing uber-modern church worship music
( example- http://m.youtube.com/watch? v=dy9nwe9_xzw&desktop_uri=%2Fwat ch%3Fv%3Ddy9nwe9_xzw )

and just joined a punk/grunge band
( i love this tone http://m.youtube.com/watch? v=HXjDMa54L0s&desktop_uri=%2Fwat ch%3Fv%3DHXjDMa54L0s

Really looking at the neo212 to start off with, or maybe the neo210 (and getting a second when I can afford it) or maybe the seemingly oh-so-popular 212 + 210?
Do youse guyz think i'm on the right track here?

PS- sorry this is so spazz, i've worked myself into a GAS frenzy at work all night :)

Can it do that ampeg/gk growl nicely? I really wish I had a chance to hear what the mixed stack sounds like. That setup seems like the ultimate in modularity and just looks SO cool

I've been playing since 1964 and until I bought this 212 neo, the best sounding cabs were sealed enclosures. This cab has a clear bottom that rivals all the sealed enclosures I have ever heard.
I have used a crown amp and a TC electronics amp with this cab and it sound exactly the same with either one.
I am really impressed with the performance of this ported cab and after this many years I have some idea of what I like.
It kills GK's line of enclosures, it is warm and accurate and I'm sure that's contributed to the deltalite2 speakers.

GK makes a good product and they have excellent customer service but their enclosures sound 'thin' to me.
I play MTD basses (at this time) with the MM style pups and it growls like one of my German Shepherds!

I don't care who's name in on the front to me a person would be hard pressed to fine a better deal on an enclosure like this. It has the sound I need at a price that negates the need to reach for the 'KY'! :D

Just got a B115 last week.

which speaker?

as these run about 1/2 the price of 1-15 cabs that get the most acclaim around here (fearful, barefaced, etc.), any chance you have played one of the more expensive 1-15s?

I'm looking for any info on what I would be giving up if I went w/ the Avatar in place of the Compact 15 or Bassic 15

Checking in, I've got a B210 that's about ten years old that I've drug all over the place and love to pieces, a B212 NEO that's on the truck for delivery today or tomorrow, and a B410 that somebody bought for the speakers that I'm gonna either flip as-is (crappy imported drivers) or maybe keep around and eventually re-speaker as a 4 ohm single-cab setup.

I also owned a G412 for a few years back when I thought I was gonna play both guitar and bass, it's long gone but was a great cab while it was here.

I was even able to get the 'old' logo on my new 212 to match my 210. Dave's the best. :D

Hello,

Just starting to put together my first rig and scored an Avatar 4x10 on ebay for just over $200. It's got the Celestions and rated at 800 watts. Wondering if some people here could impart some of their experience with these cabs and offer some suggestions as to what amps/preamps would work well with this cab in order to produce a more vintage-like sound (fat bottom, warm, tube, etc.). An example of the sound I'm after would be "Poptones" from Public Image Ltd's "Second Edition" album.

Thanks...

I used to have an older Avatar 1x12+tweet that I used for years. It was a small rear ported cube cab that saw MANY gigs. I blew the woofer 4 times with my Tobias or lakland 5 strings. I would just replace it and off it went. Eventually I sold it to go to 2x10 cabs. Huge mistake for me. Ended up selling the 2x10's and have been trying various other odd cabs ( 4X8+tweet ..etc). Well i found the below on GC used for $199. got it shipped for free to the store, and picked it up yesterday. Was only a little dusty, so I pulled the grill , cleaned everything off, and pulled the 12 to reset it with new screw holes ( the existing ones were stripping) It turns out its a NEO 12, and the cab is now like new. Im gonna assume its an 8 Ohm cab as the sticker had been peeled off. I'll telling ya..this is one of the best single 12 cabs made, price not withstanding. One hander light, and great as a single cab or low freq cab for my bi-amp setup. Cannot say enough good things about Dave and my experience with Avatar 12's.

WELL SAID!
I now wish my cab was rated at 8ohm so I can get another for a modular rig. But I do love my Avatar SB112 4 ohm cab.

What are the dimensions of that B115? It looks smaller than the ones on the Avatar site (like it doesn't have the extra room for mods) which is a good thing. Which speaker did you get in yours?
