Danny my sales rep for the Bacchus Build at Bass Japan Direct. Yes I wanted to have one built for my Claro Walnut Bacchus but traded it soon after. You got me wanting the Clear guard on this build along with the beautiful top I selected for this bass.

i figured it was Danny.

he really is fantastic!

with the move and obsessively dialing in my guitar recording chain, bass has taken a back seat.

oddly, though, my tube head of choice for BOTH guitar and bass is the Ampeg PF50-T.

fantastic preamp and transformer DI out into my chain and ultimately my audient id14.

again, great score with the Bacchus - and yes, the clear guard is the only way to go.

Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me determine what these two basses are, and if they're worth the price. They're currently sitting at a local used store, and I'm curious as to what exactly they are.

First is the white bass, it's a Woodline, has a matching headstock, and pearloid binding on the body. It has the older style 2 piece bridge and active electronics, Volume, Blend, Bass, Treble.

Second is the natural, I believe also Woodline. 24 frets, passive, newer bridge, turbo switch.

If someone with the appropriate knowledge could chime in, any help would be greatly appreciated.

the second is NOT a Woodline. it's a Global, made in the Philippine. that, or a Craft.

I've seen a few Bacchus basses in this thread in the 51 precision / telebass style, but all I can find is the universe series one, which don't seem like the ones I've seen here, can anyone shed anyone light on this? I've been gassing for a 51 p forever but can't afford some of the better ones, while the cheaper copies seem not to look right. Thanks!

i'd grab a Squier Classic Vibe Butterscotch Blond '50s P.

i had one for a while - fantastic bass.

I wouldn't get the Universal series Bacchus.

here's one on reverb.

Yeah I've been looking at those as well, really hard to find in butterscotch, that listing was put up and sold 3 years ago xD. Most of the butterscotch ones I've seen don't ship to Australia as well, believe me I've been looking, can only really get the white blonde here now.

They are definitely legit. They occupy the equivalent of the Squier Classic Vibe / Fender Mexico part of the Fender family. Not much on the P bass side of things, but if you are a J guy, then you have a lot of choices: the basic passive J bass (which can do series wiring if you pull the tone knob) in 33", 34", 35" scale, 4 or 5 string, some one off 24 fretted 4 strings, some more exotic limited edition stuff (mango as body wood, active J without pick guard, fancy top, etc)

*to complete the fender analogy

Bacchus Universe (oem in China), is similar position as lower end squiers

Bacchus' Global (Philippines in their own local factory) as mentioned above

Bacchus's Japanese lines cover the equivalent of the American specials, American Standards, and some very fancy one off stuff (cool colors, fancy top woods, etc)

Momose brand is their Fender AVRI

STR is the coffee table / boutique brand

* if you are a p guy, need to check out the cheapest MIC line or the Momose "AVRI" line. Recently they are doing more of the 24 fret-j bass with humbuckers, if that's your thing, in the Philippines and Japanese line
