Bacchus, Show 'em if you've got 'em!

My first Bacchus, a Craft Japan WL5-ALD/M in Burgundy Mist. Not the best quality photo. This thing has one of the nicest necks I've ever played, so smooth and comfortable. My only mild complaint is she weighs 10lbs. Thinking of replacing the tuners and the knobs to reduce it a bit. Also got a 4" neoprene strap on the way. Does anyone know of any direct tuner replacements? I know on the handmade series they use Gotoh's so I'm thinking of trying some Res-O-Lites.

A 10 pound Bacchus? Wow. That's wild. I think the Craft is like that though in terms of weight inconsistency. They don't put as much effort into the wood selection.My craft was a quite obvious 2 piece. But the assembly and playability was awesome. So you get that part.

Yep, 10.1 lbs on my digital scale! I know most of their basses are usually ash whereas this one is alder, not sure if that makes a difference. The quality and attention to detail is amazing, if I could get her down to about 9 lbs or so it would be perfect. I haven't looked under the pickguard yet, wondering if it has that routed canal like on most Fender J basses.

Gotoh GB528 would probably work without modification though you will see two holes up top (you can see them in the bass for sale in my signature). You could just go Hipshot 1/2" ultralight but you see all 4 holes and need to drill one. Either will usually save you around 4 - 6 ounces. Knobs can save another 2 or 3. Bridge can be up to 8. I feel like I've played this game before... :help:

Thanks I may give those Gotoh's a shot. I've never cared about weight in the past, probably because I usually play 4's. I bought a Sire V7 5 last year and the damn thing weighed 11.5 lbs, had to return it. While 10 lbs isn't really that bad I feel like 8-9 is the sweet spot.

I would suggest doing nothing. Yes, this is TB, and I get all that, but that's a major sunk cost if you ever try and sell this bass. It is not easy to sell these basses, even though they are amazing. Just due to most people not knowing what they are.

I'd spend plenty of time playing it and not worry about the weight until it becomes some kind of obvious burden.

Yeah I'm not going to rush into any mods. I think the better strap will be enough. Even if I try to reduce the weight I won't do anything that isn't reversible, like drilling holes.

Reworking my Bacchus Universe Series Fretless.

Removed the urethane coating, oiled, & polished.

Lightly sanded/oiled the back of the neck.

Epoxy coated fingerboard and bone nut (previously done)

Upgrading the bridge - either the bent plate Fender or a Hipshot A.

Waiting for DiMarzio DP149BK Ultra Jazz pickups.

Graphite lubed the tuners.
