Argh, hate to have to do this but will be putting my 2 month old Bacchus JB-5 (now a discontinued model) up for sale soon and wanted you all to get a first crack at it. Pics area couple pages back. Picked up an upright a little over a month ago and began private lessons. Keeping one electric & the upright so this one will have to go. I agree with what many have said about these basses, excellent & easily worth double the price. Send me a message if interested, thanks!

They are definitely legit. They occupy the equivalent of the Squier Classic Vibe / Fender Mexico part of the Fender family. Not much on the P bass side of things, but if you are a J guy, then you have a lot of choices: the basic passive J bass (which can do series wiring if you pull the tone knob) in 33", 34", 35" scale, 4 or 5 string, some one off 24 fretted 4 strings, some more exotic limited edition stuff (mango as body wood, active J without pick guard, fancy top, etc)

*to complete the fender analogy

Bacchus Universe (oem in China), is similar position as lower end squiers

Bacchus' Global (Philippines in their own local factory) as mentioned above

Bacchus's Japanese lines cover the equivalent of the American specials, American Standards, and some very fancy one off stuff (cool colors, fancy top woods, etc)

Momose brand is their Fender AVRI

STR is the coffee table / boutique brand

* if you are a p guy, need to check out the cheapest MIC line or the Momose "AVRI" line. Recently they are doing more of the 24 fret-j bass with humbuckers, if that's your thing, in the Philippines and Japanese line

The craft line usually refers to the cheapest of the made in Japan stuff. Retails for less than 1000 dollars over here locally. Usually more factory / assembly line than their more expensive "handmade" line, which tends to use more expensive woods, better parts and more skilled craftsmen.

I've only played a few Momose pbasses in a store environment. Unfortunately never played the BPB ones. The Momose is something you'd want if you are a serious musician and mainly a p player (and don't need a vintage fender or super expensive replica...).

I suspect the BPB would be on par with Fender American specials / highway ones (I've played a few very nice samples before), judging from how good the DI / line sound was on a Craft Jazz Bass I had for a while (which was abused by the previous owner and eventually and unfortunately developed a neck problem...). If you need a reasonably priced, good sounding p bass as part of your pro arsenal, these should be good enough.

Just picked up this baby. It's a Made in Japan Bacchus Jazz. 2 piece ash body, bound and blocked neck. Tone is amazing. Due to the controls and preamp, I can get both modern and vintage tones. The pickup and preamp are Bacchus. The controls are vol and bal on top and on bottom it's master tone (works on both active and passive modes), treble and bass. The switch is obviously active/passive.

Weight is somewhere around 8.5 lbs. Need to do a setup as the action is medium-low from the factory and I like my action super low, but it shouldn't be an issue. Giggen her this eve!

But for all you P-bass fans.. a very limited run of Bacchus Craft Japan P-basses is getting manufactured as we speak. The colors available will be Black, snow white, 3 tone sunburst and lake placid blue on alder bodies with both maple and rosewood fingerboards. The headstock will be same shape like on other Craft series basses. It is a special run of only 16 all together that Bacchus is doing on our request.
Should be available sometimes in late fall of this year.

Anybody know what's the difference between different Bacchus Jazz bass of the Universe lineup? There are WJB-330, WJB-300. BJB, BJB-450, WJB-400. What are the differences? I see some differences in body wood and headstock but...I don't know what else. And what's the different numbering means? (300, 330,etc.)

These are part of the Global Series that are handmade in the Philippines. But don't underestimate these Global Series even though it's made in the Philippines. The craftmanship is almost equal to the Japanese handmade Bacchus. This is expected because the local luthiers are supervised by Mr. Masayuki Takaesu, one of the senior luthier at Headway/Deviser, the maker of Bacchus and other high end brands. Reporting in with newly acquired Bacchus WJB-Mini! Pretty nice build quality as far as I can tell, great playability with very comfy neck - great for me because I'm a pretty small person. It is a wee bit more neck-heavy than I prefer, but not too much of a problem. Probably gonna be my main axe for some time!

WOW THATS NICE... are the pickups hum cancelling or single coils?

Currently the Metro Line are made by ESP Japan. Prior to that another very high grade OEM maker was contracted to produce them, however one can only speculate as to who that may have been.
Deviser has done and still does a lot of high end OEM so they would have been a contender for sure.

I'm buying a DX 5 tomorrow, natural ash/maple, from VSN Guitars. Very psyched, and your quote makes me feel better about my ESP E-II J-5!
