My new WL533! 33 Inch jazz bass with a hi-C.
That's a nice looking bass. What would you compare it to quality and tone wise. I was talking to them about that model and they have some demo's for 600 shipped. That looks like a whole lot of bass for that price.
Nope, stock model. I ordered the tort guard separately as they come stock with a clear guard.
Quality wise its so awesome man. No sharp frets, truss rod is really smooth, lightweight. Pickups are ok, not the beefiest. Tuners are just ok as well. KILLER BASS full stop, money aside. I play Sadowsky normally and i'd happily gig this.

I want to buy the same bass and coat the neck as well, why was shimming nedded?
Is the neck stable enough for Rotosound strings?
This bass, for the price, is a smokin' deal.
when my tech removed the neck for coating, he informed me the neck pocket was a bit of a mess.
he cleaned up the pocket and added a .010" shim. not much, but enough to get it close to spec.
probably will vary bass to bass, whether you need to shim or not. BUT if you are going to coat the board
and have the neck off anyway, may as well check the pocket while you are at it.

the neck on this bass is SUPERB! keep in mind it has about a 16" fingerboard radius.
perfect for me as i am not a fan of 9.25" radii and tighter on basses.
especially for fretless.
i just put rotosound strings on this and it KILLS!
not sure what would make you wonder if the neck is stable enough.
it is quarter-sawn maple and straight for days. i basically bought it for the body and neck.
seriously, it looks remarkably like the Fender Jaco basses - other than the body material.
i was recording with it last night - good lord! it's right there with the Fender fretless tone - and then some!!!
i swapped the stock pickups with the Jazz pups from my FSR Jazz and have a J-Retro preamp onboard.
that and the Hipshot A bridge...
i'll never get rid of this.

to add:
i originally put low tension Dunlop Super Brights on this bass.
I LOVE the Super Brights on my fretted basses for slap.
BUT, the Dunlops weren't quite "there" on the fretless.
SO, i tried the Rotosounds - first time for this brand.
and BAM! there it was!

Congrats again on that looker and as I posted on your NBD thread i can't wait to get my STD JB5 from VSN this Wednesday...Been a couple of years since i've had an active bass and looking forward to this one a great deal.
UPS delivered this today! STD JB5 Craft Series purchased from VSNGuitars (smoking deals there BTW, thanks Ned!). Unfortunately, busy day for me with work, dropping and picking kids up at Spring Break camp then their Tennis lessons yada yada yada... Have only spent less than 15 minutes playing but already i can say that it's a player for sure. First of all this bass is gorgeous and the build quality like many have said about these basses is that of at least double the value. Frets, neck and body are immaculate. Not too crazy about the strings though...I'm a nickels guy so likely will be changing em soon. I find the passive tone to be very good. In active, it's a beast but I need some serious time to dial in my preferred tones. Enough of writing, here are some pics. Sorry, cell phone pics only for now...time to shed!
