Well greetings to all of you fine folks. My name is John and I am playing bass again after a 15 year break. I grew up in Miami Florida and when I was about 13 I got my first bass guitar and practice amp. You see my neighbor and skateboarding buddy Mario had gotten a guitar so if we were going to be in a band we needed a bass guitar so that is where I came in. We played together thru Junior High and High School until he moved away for college. I continued to play in different bands and projects until I finished College (all 7 years of it, I took the scenic route). The musical styles varied from hardcore and punk bands, gothic emo stuff, our best impression of jazz and singer song writerish stuff. Nearing the end of school my interests were starting to change and after school I packed up and headed out to Breckenridge Colorado to become a rock climber and snowboarder. I left the musical gear behind and planed on having it shipped out at a later date. That never really happened and I donated some gear to my mom's church, and sold the rest to buy camera gear when my son was born almost 6 years ago. Along the way I figured I would not have time to be in a band so I bought a nylon string guitar thinking that I was going to learn to play classical guitar. That didn't get all that much traction but it was nice to have an instrument around. Then on facebook I saw that Mario was opening up for the Deaftones in Salt lake City Utah. A friend and I did the 8 hour drive to go see him and it was great catching up. Something stuck with me that he said. He asked if I was still playing and I said no. His reply was "I am going to be honest, that makes me a little angry". Not wanting Mario to be angry I then went out and got a second job cooking part time at my son's elementary school, saved up and bought a 2000 Warwick NT thumbass 4 string. That was a couple of months ago and I forgot how much fun the bass is compared to classical guitar. I have found that I am remembering more than I thought I would and the feel is coming back. Well now I am getting a strong and overwhelming desire to jam with people. For that you need an amplifier and some speakers. The amp situation is a little sketchy. The one piece of gear that I never let go was a 1992 ART SGX Nightbass, a preamp with a 12ax7 and some digital effects. The finest that 1992 could produce but it has not quite made it to classic status 25 years later. I bought a used crown xti1000 poweramp and a gator plywood rackcase. This all adds up to an inexpensive amp that weighs more than I imagined and is way bigger than I pictured in my head. But it is paid for and is the sound that I am used to and feels like home. I plan on getting a smaller head to take to jam with but for now that is what I am working with. This brings us to the speaker cabinet. I enjoy researching online, reading reviews, watching youtube videos and contacting manufacturers before buying items. I played a 4 x 10 ampeg cabinet my entire gigging time period. I like 4 x 10 but was looking for something a little bit easier to move around and have pulled the trigger on a 2x12 made by custom builder David Luke, owner of Revsound out of New Hampshire. He took the time to talk with me on the phone and help me decide what was right for me and I couldn't be more excited. Well enough about me, time to get back to practicing so I will be ready for an epic 30 minute bass solo at the local open mic night…….
