I did software desiqn for 31 yrs.. I wrote so much custom code they hired me back as a consultant at 3x the rate because nobody knew how to write my language.... did that for 10 more years until the servers crashed. money was good butbid rather ve playing bass and hang on TB.I was supposed to go back today but my girlfriend is quite flu sick so I stayed home. Back tomorrow. I like my job (software engineer), but at 66 I'm really looking forward to retiring and devoting several hours a day to music. OK, now I'm depressed.
Another thing I love about working is it gives me structure of my week, and I have many interesting things to work on. I have a great boss who lets me work on my projects as I see fit. We have money to buy our users what they need. We get along in our department. And the rest of the organization is great. Life is good!

Good analogy.....am I a musician in "Corp Guy" clothing.....or am I corp guy who puts on the "musician" suit?
A life long struggle I suppose.....I need to get better at handling both and not focusing too much one one or the other

DAY 1 CHECK. BTW...is it "on" the waggon or "off", always confused by that.
+1...Ive got nearly 20 years before I can retire, Im just hoping I can stay healthy and financially sound enough to enjoy it. But I generally like my day job, I get to keep fairly regular hours, is interesting enough to keep me on my toes, pays the bills well......and yes I get to gig and such on the weekends as much or as little as I want.My dad would thoroughly agree with this sentiment:
"Work hard. My Social Security needs a raise."
I've still got ~20 years to go. But I like my job and it does pay the bills and allow me to play weekend warrior rock star though. I'm a lot like this:

Hope SS has still got some money in the pot when you retire. Of course that's what they said when I retired.
