I really like the Fender products. I have a Rumble 100 combo and a Super Bassman 300. Both are excellent. I had an Ampeg SVT Classic that I traded off. It was also a great amp, but it was much heavier than the Fender, and that is becoming more of an issue as I creep towards geezerdom.

No it's not. Only the PF500 has had issues in the past.
To say the Portaflex series is a catastrophic failure is absolute nonsense.
The cabs and amps sound great and are very reliable.
I bet Linnin has no personal experience at all with the Portaflex series.
I know Linnin loves Fender and hates Ampeg, Linnin, but there's no need for this.

If the OP digs the sound of Fender amps more, that's something different.

He's just frustrated there haven't been many opportunities to bash Ampeg lately. Revisions A-C of the PF500 had problems several years ago. Rev D and later have been fine since then. I even loaned one of mine to a local whose MB800 smoked.
Meanwhile, the non-TB world continues to buy the things apace, without angst.
I work with a bassist who has an old BXR 300 combo which sounds and works great, it does have some weight to it. For the sake of this conversation I have to mention that he recently bought an Ampeg PF 800/PF210 setup.
He is really enjoying it as well. Chances are that he will eventually sell his Fender as he is in his mid sixties and the weight of the BXR 300 combo was getting to be a bit much for him to carry around. But selling it will have nothing to do with how it sounds or operates.

I might be wrong, but I think Linnin was just referring to "Catastrophic Failure" as an unrecoverable fault mode, and not pooping on the entire pf series.
I'm also hindered by the weight and have been looking at shuttles. They apparently put some good sound out?
Sure seems like it's the entire series he's "pooping" on. Very expected and ponderous at this point.

I used to think that way too. But I found several instances since 1969, where a brand name cab didn't have the impedance, etc., or what ever to match up with a certain head.
Very disappointed with Peavey and their ******** about their shipping date for the Mini Max. They keep pushing the date up, time after time. Now they are saying December 23rd. I am going to switch to another company. Peavey is dropping the ball on this one.
