Backing tracks

Is it cheating? Obviously not. To cheat means breaking a rule. There is no such rule being broken.

Is it cheesy? Often. This is what to avoid.

Can it be artful? No question it can be. Also, since the discussion included live looping, that can be the sonic equivalent of sand painting. You don't have to get it.

Is it lazy? Irrelevent, yes/no. Laziness is a separate issue.

I have never played to tracks, or used a looper live. The latter because its far easier not to.
