Bad attitude, or am I overthinking this?

Thanks to everyone who replied! The consensus is that I should give it a go, or at least explore further, and that's what I'm going to do. I'm fairly overwhelmed with work right now, so I thought I might be reacting more strongly than was warranted. I wrote back last night and talked about it a little further, and I'm going to play around with a bass track for one of his songs on SoundCloud and send it to him and see if he thinks our styles are compatible. He was a little less intense with this last e-mail exchange, so that is promising. Now I have to A) find time to finish writing that part, and B) figure out how to record it on my crappy iPad so that the sound actually comes across well.

And on the possible serial killer front, I'll be bringing my husband along to practices, so he'll have to murder both of us if he wants to not leave witnesses. :)

Don't do that. Create a baseline for his track. Don't record it and send to him Just play it with him when you all meet.

You don't know if his recording is take 1 or 100. You'll find out in short order when you play togethr IF you can play together.

Tuck into the back of your head that he may be new to this - and is nervous about meeting you. (FWIW I've yet to meet a songwriter who isn't fairly 'needy' underneath all their bravado.) But you're a class act. I'm sure you'll set him at ease if he's the nervous type.

Hopefully it'll work out well and you'll be off and running - and playing out shortly. Luck!

+1 to 40HZ's comments.....Let us know how it goes :).....

Just play his songs and if you feel something needs to be changed, just let him know your idea.
You're a beginner, so you'll get some experience. If something weird happen along the way, you can always come here and make a thread about it ;)

Hey OP, did you ever get together with this guy to jam? I'm curious how this situation turned out.
