Bad days

Yep. Sometimes just nothing sounds right and nothing comes out right. The scariest ones for me are when I go back and listen to a tune we have been doing for a while and find some passage that I have been playing magnificently wrong for ages. That's when I have a bit of a panic and wonder what happened to my ears.

Every time I pick up my bass. It's just part of the process. This feeling is what keeps me progressing and moving in the right direction. Embrace it, use it to get better.

If I'm having a bad day I think of the major league pitcher who gives up three or more runs in the first inning, or the pro quarterback who throws three interceptions in one game. Bad days happen to the best in every pursuit. At least we don't have a whole legion of fans hating our guts when we have a bad day.

Bad days only. I'm not frustrated with my practice only at the most inappropriate moments ie when I have to leave in 10 minutes, when its very late
and I must go to bed, when my bass and amp sound strange, when I have a pain in my back, when my neighbor's dog is barking like crazy...

Open mic... Where the desire to perform typically outweighs the ability to perform.

I have days where i'm like what in the world is wrong with me. I start talking to myself. Now that I'm 51 and it takes a little bit to get the hands working its even worse. If I spend 15 minutes and the hands are warmed up and it still not following. I just put it down for a little bit and take a break .Than there are days where just follows and that's why I love play and I just don't want to put down. Good days ,ok days and days that just blow.

The Bass Black Dog hits me every so often. Seldom does more than 6 months go by without it paying me a visit for a day or two. When it does, I just do my best to ignore it and keep on pushin' on. Or take a day or two off.

Eventually it gets bored with me and runs off to bother somebody else.
