Cool basses!!

This one is getting a refinish...in black! Also going on a diet, and getting the neck straight in the pocket etc.

Its got matching black tuning machines as well. Might have to get ultralights after the weight reduction, im hoping it doenst get neck dive!

So by 'diet' are you planning on routing under the pg? Having gone that 'route' to both lesser and greater degrees on a few basses, if it's only under the pg - you won't lose that much weight unless you really go deep, which is tricky considering the side/back contours. I'll guess no more than 1/2 lb so I wouldn't worry about neck dive as a result.

The luthier typically puts the body through a planer to get it 'flat' again. Then he basically chambers and drills larger diameter holes everywhere he can, then puts a cap over it, and paints it. He is shooting for 3/4 - 1 lb. It will also go from 1, 5/8" to 1, 1/2 or a smidge less. Im hopeful to get it closer to 9lbs or less when its done.

I see - I prefer 1.5" deep and have also planed a standard 1-3/4" Fender body to that measurement as well as making my own bass bodies at 1.5". I think the Fender Road-Worn series is 1.5", as well as some Squier's. At 1.5" there's plenty of room for the control cavity depth etc and it feels much nicer ergonomically being a bit thinner. I'm guessing he'll be drilling from the back? I'll be interested in the process and weight savings. You should see if he'll take 'in progress' pics and you can post them in a thread over at Luthiers Corner. We are a very friendly and supportive group there and you'd get interest for sure!
