Badass black basses!

Wow, Lo-Hz, I really appreciate that. I don't know what to say other than, Thanks!

You're entirely welcome... Whenever somebody gets the idea that they can "improve" the look or balance of their bass by hacking pieces off of it, that's exactly what it tends to look like. Your bass shows thoughtful intent and excellent execution. It doesn't look like it used to be something else.

Yeah, I agree. Great proportions, and it looks like a bit of an homage to an Ampeg style bass with the F-holes. I like how the head-stock cutout echoes the body cut-out. Nicely done!

Really is well executed. Very clever!

Thank you very very much, gentlemen.

UpperBout, you are exactly right in that my inspiration for this bass was an Ampeg scroll bass. I've always loved the look of them but can not afford one.
I've also seen the modern renditions from Eastwood and Italia.

As I started this project I documented its progress here:
My first "build". P-bass to Scroll bass. Some info/advice please?

It was with much help and many suggestions from fellow TB'ers that I came up with the final design. It went through two continents
(I lived in Greece when I bought the kit. I know live in New York, where I built the kit) and many incarnations before reaching the final stage
you see here.

I appreciate the compliments on the headstock. I Love the scroll portion of the Ampeg bass, but it was beyond my current abilities and budget
to mimic that on this bass, but I knew I did not want a common headstock shape or layout. I drew many different renditions before coming up
with what you see in the picture. I'm glad to know that it looks good to people who don't necessarily know I built.

The "missing link", I believe, was making the pickguard color match as closely as possibly the body and headstock color. Prior to this it was white,
and it's classic P-bass shape fooled the eye into not really being able to see and appreciate the new body shape and f-hole cutout. Once I ended up
making it flat black, it "disappeared" into the body, and the new body shape and cut out came to life. In the picture it it more prominent, but under
more subdued lighting you barely see it.

I'm glad to know that, all-in-all, it doesn't look like a homemade hack job.

Thanks again, gentlemen. You truly made my day and upped my spirits with your comments and compliments.

That's nice... I believe we are still awaiting the pictures of your Lakland 55-64 refin'd in black. How's that project coming?

Got word that it was finally done. The cold weather was screwing with the curing. Should get it back in the next week.. Here are some pics he sent me.
