I'm usually not a big fan of black basses, but I think Big Al looks best in black.

That's nice. Again,to my eyes that big blank field of black has to be accented or "anchored or something and the big pole pieces and knobs give the silver/chrome visual.
But that's just-a me.

Fender w. pickguard needs contrast of maple neck for my eyes, pickguards are hard to call, and the black pickup covers are just too much black , IMHO. But what color or finish might they be for contrast and not look goofy Would chrome work for a cover on a P or J pickup? They work for plenty of others.

I like all of the above, but there is something about black P and J basses that seems unresolved to me. Strange fixation for me, not generally bugged by this sort of stuff.

…and after!

I have since updated my "Badass Black Bass" collection. I still have the Aerodyne ('cuz I'm in no rush to sell my first-ever!), but the Blacktop has seen some notable changes. I sold it's neck, along with the body of a Classic '70s RI, and put the two together.

But the most recent, and probably coolest, acquisition of mine this year came to me all the way from Japan. Once I heard Fender Japan was no more (not to mention, the weakening Yen vs. the US Dollar), I started perusing [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I missed out on the one I wanted, but stumbled across this lovely creature…an MIJ Fender Japan JB62 "All-Black".
