Those Honeycombs are collectors items ;)

They doo sound great with GK rigs though. They ad that extra "warmth" to the growl. I used to run mine always on with my GK MB500 and that rig sounded killer!

The Heartbreaker is the new update to the Honeycomb and while it is true that It'll take me a few weeks to get back up and building after the move, there's a Heartbreaker in the classifieds right now at a screamin' deal. (A Wayfarer too I think!)

Good eye. I liked the mood of the pic, but you've got me there.

I do have another design concept I'm working out (with a real pic of my fixie on it ;) ) but I'm also testing out the name a little.

The idea with this fuzz is to nab that ratty flavor between distortion and fuzz (not ratty as in ProCo, ratty like ripped jeans in an 80's movie) with subtle octave overtones.

I've been re-visiting my experiments with overdrives and harmonic percolators and tonebenders and this is certainly nastier than a TS but not as crazy as a tonebender.


I went with "fixie fuzz" because this is a simple concept that ends up having a great deal of versatility.

I just picked up a wayfarer in trade, and the dirt character sounds OK, but it's hard to tell because there is an overwhelming amount of hum. Is that normal?

It's powered by a PP2, so the power source should be clean.

Anything I can do to fix?

No, the hum is not normal. I have one and it's super quiet. Sounds like it has some grounding issues internally. I'm sure Jimmy would be willing to pop it open and fix it for a very reasonable price.

Sorry to hear you got a dud. I still have mine and it still sounds great! I'm breaking it out tomorrow as a matter of fact to put a little dirt in my Saturday afternoon :bassist:

No, the hum is not normal, but it would be almost impossible for me to tell you what the problem is without opening it up. It could be anything from grounding to a bad capacitor.

Not to resurrect a zombie, but is B1S still building/taking orders?

I stumbled upon these pedals, and the Heartbreaker and Wayfarer are incredible. Can they still be ordered, or do I have to watch out for used?

or, if they can't be had, can anyone suggest alternatives to either of the above?

No. I guess I didn't want to bother him if he was out of the game. I thought if someone else already knew, I could save him another email to answer and get the info out there for others as well. Reading through this thread, he sounds like a busy guy.

I'm not in a rush, so if there is no news, I'll email him directly later on.

No bother, but I am indeed out of the game these days. I've got the parts for one more wayfarer that I'm intending to build and give the proceeds to charity, but I've decided that I should clear some time in my life for other things (like baby #2 due in about 8 weeks) so I won't be bringing any new designs to market anytime soon.

I appreciate all the good vibes and enthusiasm around here, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, but I check TB pretty infrequently these days so if anyone needs me from here on out send me an e-mail.

FWIW for the seekers, the Fuzzrocious Dark Driving is going to get you in the same territory as the Heartbreaker / Honeycomb. The Wayfarer is it's own thing though, so I don't know where to send you for that one. Maybe I'll just share the schematic here if I can find it or make a digital version.
