Way back in the day (70's), I fell into 'the trap'. Got an Alembic Preamp, a Furmin Parametric EQ, and a PA Power amp (BGW at the time). It sounded 'good' of course, but I was forever messing with the EQ, the signal chain, etc. and it never sounded 'quite right'. Just for the heck of it, I bought a GK400RB (or whatever it was called back then) as a back-up head, since that rack rig weighed a ton.
I plugged it in, turned it on, and the rack only left the house one more time... when I took it to the music store to put on consignment sale.
Sometimes we complicate things to the point where we lose sight of the end goal... to have a great sounding bass guitar. It's not as hard to do as some thing, especially with enough time in the woodshed to make sure the signal/sound coming out of the bass and into the rig is worth amplifying
