Had a week of evening performances this week. My ML112 arrived yesterday, so I was able to swap it in for the rental Traynor TC115 that I'd been relying on. I was expecting (and am loving) the much clearer mid-range, but wasn't expecting the bass response to go lower as well! Design truly does trump size where speakers are concerned. I think me and this cab are going to get along just fine.

Nice. This has become one of my favorite gigging cab configurations. Roger really knocked it out of the park with the ML-112, IME/IMHO.

That's actually the hardest part of the equation. I'm currently favoring the WalkAbout, but the gig I did with Orange Terror Bass 500 was pretty amazing, and the MB Fusion really kicks, as well.
Hmmm... I recently took in a Markbass Big Bang for review. I bet that might rawk with these cabs, as well...

I really dig my ML112. Pair it with a GB Streamliner 900. I always get PA support and currently don't have a need for 2, but it sounds so darn good I would love to hear what a pair sounds like. For now though, a single gets it done and I love the schlep!

I mostly never have FOH support, which is one thing.
The other thing about two is stacking them vertically:
1) gets me better nearfield monitoring.
2) vertical line array thorws into a room better.

It seems to work well enough with low-end gear as well. I think I stand alone using the ML112 with less than optimal amplification and low-end instruments (relatively speaking).
I just don't seem to be able to obtain the focused tightness from the ML112 that those who utilize pricier gear seem to report. I've found a workaround so it's all good.
Hmm .. maybe it somes down to what the individual calls "good". It's hard to say. What one person calls ~tight low end~ may sound HPF-ish to another. Last weekend's show was a learning experience. Low Bs/Cs were wanting. Got it taken care of by the 4th song or so. Now I know what it takes in a live/3pc w/singer setting. I have video but it's horrible, it sounds like what you hear of the live act at a club while standing at the urinal.

Flux, I know you are into this experimental rig with all the synth filters and all, but have you ever thought about just going with a good quality bass amp? I think something like a GB Streamliner would work good for you. There's a lot to be said for a using one simple, dedicated piece of equipment that was designed specifically to amplify our instrument.
Way back in the day (70's), I fell into 'the trap'. Got an Alembic Preamp, a Furmin Parametric EQ, and a PA Power amp (BGW at the time). It sounded 'good' of course, but I was forever messing with the EQ, the signal chain, etc. and it never sounded 'quite right'. Just for the heck of it, I bought a GK400RB (or whatever it was called back then) as a back-up head, since that rack rig weighed a ton. I plugged it in, turned it on, and the rack only left the house one more time... when I took it to the music store to put on consignment sale.
Sometimes we complicate things to the point where we lose sight of the end goal... to have a great sounding bass guitar. It's not as hard to do as some thing, especially with enough time in the woodshed to make sure the signal/sound coming out of the bass and into the rig is worth amplifying
+1 Use good, solid gear (not necessarily boutique) that plays well together and keep it simple. I get good note definition and solid lows with either my STM900 or Shuttle Max 9.2 into a pair of ML112's. The Valkyrie should be ideal with these when it comes out but another one I'd like to hear is the upcoming GK MB800 Fusion. To get the bass tight I just dial back the deep bass (<80 hz) and bump 120-150Hz a bit. The bass itself matters too, especially the type and spacing of pickups. My Valenti PJ5 with the Nordie pickups seems to be the best in my stable with these cabs. That P-pickup mid focus with voicing that's not too wide really thumps in a good way with these.

I think we are all guilty of going through that at one point, or another. I certainly had a rack full of gear at one point myself. For me personally, I spent a lot of years constantly buying and selling gear, chasing "my tone". It took a lot of years for me to realize that "my tone" was coming from my hands and my technique and not my gear. After that realization, it became easier for me to buy gear based on how it affected "my tone" and the features that it provided.

I couldn't agree more. Back in the late 70s and into the 80s I played a simple rig. Traynor tube head with Traynor cabs (2x15s) pulled out the OEM 15s in favor of JBLs and that was it. Always LOVED that tone....
Seems like I have been looking for that tone ever since...
Hell, I have a truckload of Ampeg gear and (don't get me wrong) it provides me with a great tone, but it ain't THAT tone...I sometimes think that the only logical answer is to go back to 15s, in spite of what the "experts" say....
