Having gigged my personal Baers now (I had a pair for BassGear for a while), I can say:
I missed horns for a while. I kinda don't now.
Despite the fact that I have two GK112's I like very well, a 12/6/1+12sub rig I like fairly well, and 2xTC115's I really like; I have new best friends.
That may change, but I know what I'll be packing to work most regularly right now.
Fat, but not blubbery, and you can eq in more or less beef readily.
Punchy as heck.
Super articulate.
Great mids; smooth, but barky and present as well.
Treble response that really doesn't leave me missing a horn; especially the more I use them and acclimate to their treble delivery.
Light, and easy to move.
And: these cabs take a little grit/grind/OD from the Walkabout/1001/MBFusion, and do nice things to it.
Well done sir, well done.
Thanks for the comments, Chef. I think you are hitting exactly on what we are trying to do here, which is to get your articulation from a well defined and present upper mid response and a top end that extends out to the useful top end of our instrument, but not out further into the upper treble response.
Admittedly, it does take a while to retrain your ear to the way that these cabs present your top end. While it's natural to initially focus on one what part of the frequency range the mid drivers don't recreate, your ears soon begin to focus on the new way in which your top end presents itself within the mix of your band. Even a lot of the slappers using the cabs are finding that although the upper end sparkle isn't all there, their top end now has a punch and weight to it that wasn't there before and it seems to work for them.
