Baer Amplification Megathread!

Man, I am in the market RIGHT NOW for a 212... and I kinda need it really soon... I so wish these were available, because I totally want to try one.

Ugh.

:crying:

We are just waiting on grills and shipping containers for the ML212's to come in. I'm guessing we should be taking orders in about 4 weeks.

There are a couple differences between using a ML212 and using 2 ML112's. First off, the mid drivers are located much closer together, so the mid dispersion is a bit improved over a ML112 stack. The low end is also just a touch deeper, owing to the larger box size. Slap on a caster kit and you just roll this cab in and out. Now, what you do give up is some portability and flexibility. While a single ML112 might be just the trick for getting your sound on a low volume coffee house type gig, the ML212 really sounds it's best with a little muscle behind it. So, no leaving one cab behind for a smaller gig.

That's awesome to hear Roger! Is the ML115 in a similar situation?

The ML115 is a little farther out, as the crossovers have a much longer lead time, as Neutrik is backordered on the speakON/1/4" combo jacks. If we get word of any longer delays due to those jacks, we may drop them and just go speakON only. Honestly, we intend to drop the 1/4" option in the future anyways, as we believe the speakON is a vastly superior connector and the 1/4" jack is a technology that should have gone away long ago.

I think it's nice to still have, but I don't blame manufactures for ditching 1/4" all together.

FWIW (this probably doesn't really help, but just might) I recently ordered a couple combo units from All Pro Sound:

If you could spare a few bucks in your margin, might be an alternative for the time being.

(no affiliation, just a one-time buyer)

Glad to hear the new cabs are getting close.

Just had a shootout (or rather comparison) between different modern 112 cabs.
The ML112 (not fully broken in yet (only +-2 hours of playing) came VERY close to the Accugroove Tri112l. Apart from the very hi end of the spectrum, they almost sounded identical in lows and mids.....

I know video sound clips are typically a really bad way of "judging" a cab, but can anyone provide any links for sound clips of these cabs?

Thanks!!

Like this?

I played an outdoor gig and was later told by the soundman that he didn't have me in the FOH. What you hear is straight through...jazz-style 'A' bass-->Markbass SD1200-->Baer ML-112 stack.

These cabs are efficient as I had plenty of gain left on the amp. I also think it's hard to tell these cabs don't have tweeters, don't you think?

Been using the ML112's as stereo speakers all day today. IMO, I'm not missing much. Just can't get over the 10kHz reach of the mid range. :bassist:

Yeah, like that... but I need moar!!! :D

I'm also bumping this thread with hopes that cabinet and grill delivery has come early on the 212 so I can get some reports or maybe even order one of my own.

Any news?

:hyper:

Also... Roger, do you custom grill covers of any kind, or is anythnig like that even possible on your cabs? Honestly, aesthetics is my smallest concern, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks!

It can be very frustrating when production gets help up by outside vendors, but such is the way of being a small manufacturer, when you don't have large buying power. We are really trying to get both the ML212 and ML115 out before NAMM.

Drivers are the same as they have been. Right now neo is holding fairly stable and we just got in another order of our custom 12" drivers.

As far as custom grill work, we are just not set up for custom one offs, in quite the same way a shop like LDS might be, as we order grills 50 at a time to try and keep the cost in line, but drop me a line and let me know what you are looking for. [email protected]

Just a note of continuing thanks for doing what you do!

Right now, in my Bass Experimentation Area (tm)
I have the MBFusion, sitting on two ML112s.
Next to this, on either side, I have
2 GK Neo 112's, and a 12/6/1 (with Faital Mid) and 12 sub.

The Baers feel and sound like they go as high as the GK and 12/6/1 in terms of treble extension, but, do it "a bit more sweetly."
No "horn harsh" killing your buzz.

They have the midrange cut of the GK's, and then some; and do it without ever being "too much" to me.

They don't quite have the deep bass of the 12/6/1+12sub, but, this isn't a bad thing: they don't boom up some rooms like the deep end of those can, and, you can eq the best part of that deep end in without it being too much; if that makes sense.

The Baers also take grit/grind and that bit of OD that the MBF and Walkabout do before they turn into things I don't like; and make it musical and interesting, ans opposed to ick and trash.

These are "as close to being all things" to me as anything really has been.

Well done sir, well done.

+1 Chef, your description matches what I hear with mine as well except that my amps are the Genz Benz STM900 ad SM9.2 (although I'd love to hear that new MBF800). Too much deep bass not only adds rumble but seems to take the punch out of the notes and make them less immediate. The ML112's give a solid low end with the right amount of depth without having to search for it. Also agree there is a nice balance of mid-presence and treble extension without being harsh. Two of these are also as loud as I'd ever need to be for stage volume. Plenty of headroom with no fartout. These can make your ears ring if you get silly with the volume - happened once when I got careless, won't do that again.

Thanks for the kind words! Until we manage to grow into a much larger company, this venture is much more a labor of love for me, than it is a way to generate income. Anything (and more) that comes in goes right back into buying more inventory and R&D. What truly makes it worth it, is to have players enjoying the products we make! There's nothing like getting an email from a customer telling me that the ML cabs are giving them the sound they have been searching for for years.

A bit of good news on the gear front. We finally have the ML212's on the factory's production schedule for the end of November. We should be taking orders for these here soon. I'm also working with the final ML115 proto, so those shouldn't be too far behind.
