I'll agree, there's a diff b/t horizontal and vertical.

I don't perceive that as a dramatic make or break difference though.

I run them vertical pretty much always, and really don't even feel the need to add low end back via eq....

Keep in mind that with three ML112's, you will probably want to run them horizontally!

I'm feeling your pain but I always envisioned 8 ML-112's stacked horizontally in 2 separate stacks!!!

No, I thought about this also in the past. The 12" driver only goes up to about 1.5khz, where it is 2nd order low passed at the cross over. You'd have a very dark tone if you only mic'ed the 12" driver.

While I haven't had a reason to mic an ML112 yet, what I would do is:
use your favorite big diaphragm mic, back it off the cab about 18", and split the diff b/t the 12 and the 6, which, at that distance is gonna be minimal anyway.....

Oh man! I hadn't thought about micing a cab with a crossover like that. Not very practical on stage. Hmmm... I may be forced into an Aggie non-tweeter 12" if I go the micro rig route. Shoot!

An on-stage large diaphragm a foot & 1/2 from the cab? I suppose it can be done, but is pretty unconventional!

I hadn't even thought about micing a 2-way cab. It's definitely an extra 'hoop to jump through' with the engineer. Not sure if I'd even be micing a micro-rig though.

I was really on the verge of being afraid that this cabinet might be too upper-mid aggressive from all the demo'ing I've been doing. I don't have any gigs until after the holidays, so was debating on sending this one back. That was BEFORE I turned the thing sideways. The difference when doing this is very substantial to me. I'm sure it wouldn't matter much at all if you were standing 20 feet out in front of it, but a lot of my gigs I'm only 3-4 feet in front of the cabinet, sometimes sitting down which places that 6" driver even closer to your head. Laying the cabinet down horizontal is a pretty huge different IMHO, at least sitting here in my house with it. It's very huge.

So today I kind of started all over again with this cabinet. I introduced myself again, gave a few oohs and ahhs over how nice it looks, and then set my EQ flat and started tweaking from scratch as if I'd never heard it before.

It sounds MUCH better to me on the ground....or is it just breaking in even better such that the lows coming from the 12" driver are catching up to the 6" driver? I don't know, but it sounds WAY better to me like this. EQ adjustments I needed to even it out are much less also.
