Bag End Stack in the House!

:eek::eek: What, 3 S-15's ??? Do you use all 3 at the same time??? How does the GK head sound w/BEs ?

of course all three! :) the GK sounds great as does the Landmark 600, though i can only use it with two because it handles a 4 ohm load minimum. with the GK, i can run all three out of one side - it's probably putting out ~500 watts into 2.7 ohms, so each cab is getting ~165 watts. or i can run two out of one side so that each gets 180, and one out of the other side which would get 240.

the triple stack is cool because the height is just about perfect and the low end output does seem to get bigger (though i don't find it lacking even with a single cab) while still staying very tight and punchy. this stack is loud as heck though - figure the sensitivity of a single cab is 103db, two goes to 106, three goes to ~ 107.5... pretty loud with without requiring a lot of power. the stack is still very stable - may get a little tippy with a fourth  no doubt a great rig for gigging with the small footprint and ease of transport, though it may be a while before i can comment on that. they give a great rock tone and compliment the grindy nature of the GK and Landmark, and sound cool with overdrive. one of the best things (IMO) about these cabs is the overall balance in tone - they don't have that strange hole in midrange that a lot of other 15's do. they aren't flat, but they are musical. they are warm and round yet punchy, and clear on the high end, especially for a non-tweeter cab.

Just picked up a S15BC. Different sound from the regular S15, as you can imagine from the size difference. I have literally just picked it up and have not had a chance to check it out much yet. I should be able to tomorrow. I'll be experimenting with it alone with the Shuttle, paired with a regular S15, and being driven by my 700 watt DPC750.

Most interested in your comments !!! Have been considering an S15B but I already have 2 15s (S15/S15XL) Wonder how the S15B sounds compared to these. Maybe I should try pairing a 15 with 10s ?....
Interested in the Shuttle 6 and the LMII. Has anyone here compared this two heads driving S15s ?

I'll let you know on the S15B. In very quick comparisons )only a couple of minutes, nothing real world) the S15C stack sounds a little lower than the S15C/S15B stack. But like I said, that's just hooked up for a few lines in a tiny basement room (10 x 11) with poor acoustics.

I was tempted by the thought of putting 10's with the S15B as well.

My ultimate Bag End stack! I opened the port on the S15B and the cab sounds lower and fuller. i believe this cab will do for me what I want it to: provide extra power for my outdoor gigs. It is impractical to use on anything other than a large stage, but who said we have to be practical?

nice! stack the third one on top!

Kevin's right. Three Bags would present a 2.67 ohm load to the Shuttle head, which is a no-no. Now if it were a Neo-Pak head, no prob.

Then again, he doesn't need the third Bag cab with this setup! As a Neo-Pak owner who's played the head through my two S15 cabs, I can tell you that it gets very loud. I can only imagine what the 600 watt Shuttle 6.0 can do with an S15-D and the S15-B combination, but I imagine it is a BIG sound.

The crossover/Peavey DPC amp would work well with the S15-B in a subwoofer mode. I bet that sounds impressive.

I love the setup, Kevin. Thanks for posting it in this, the de facto Bag End megathread. That's a hip music room you have there, just going by the pics. My music room/office just got freshly painted over spring break last week, so it's pretty, but boring at this point.

Is there a Talkbass Bag End Members Club yet? Laughing.. we might need to do one.

Outstanding. Very nice review/tribute to the Bag S15s. So much to-do is made about these cabs rolling off a bit high compared to more recent designs, in the name of specmanship and "my cab is better than your cab" insecurity. It is nice to hear an owner recognizing the real beauty of the S15 design- the musical tone. So what if the cab doesn't go down to 30 Hz? They sound terrific for bass. Musical tone is something that has to be experienced. It's hard to explain what that is.

The other thing I got from this post is that the S15 cabs sound good with many different heads and pre/power setups. I saw those two heads used with the S15s - the Landmark 600 and the G-K 2000 - and thought to myself, "wow.. perfect." Then, earlier, there was the Traynor tube amp, and also Kevin and myself powering them with Genz mini-heads. Old technology or new driving them, the Bags will sound great.

However, passing through a door with this cab can be a real challenge if there is no-one around to help.

my s15l-d is just as deep. i live in a very tiny baltimore rowhouse, with the marble steps they're (in)famous for, and i feel your pain! the cab's 18-1/2" deep, my doorways are like 20"wide, tricky. an s15l stack would be far more practical, but this single 15 is the absoulte perfect single 15 cab. anybody gig with a Pair of s15l-d's? i can only imagine....

Thanks, Mike. You know, you started the thread that made me buy the Shuttle! I don't ever anticipate using the S15B as a sub onstage. I do have it set up as a sub for my music room stereo and it does a fabulous job! Most of my gigs are with a single S15, but I use the stacked S15s where ever possible because of the fullness of sound without having to make the amp work too hard. The S15/S15B should be killer for my big outdoor gigs. I have the master on just barely and I rattle everything in my basement. My music room is very tiny, with lots of recycled panelling, old posters etc, covering the walls. Thanks for the props.

Who wants to be the brave soul to start and manage a club?

I'm highly interested in this thread. Been to BE's site, and I'm curious about a couple of things:

1. Some of the models mentioned in this thread don't appear to be out there. Easy to attribute this to deprecation, but:
2. Someone mentioned an "L" series cab in a recent post - there's no such thing that I can see out there.
3. Think they'd be willing to load one of their S15B-D big boxes with the coax version of the 15"? I'm thinking two of these, one with the coax, would be a killer big rig.

Thoughts?

EDIT: it's also unclear on the site - can you order any of their boxes in the natural finish, or only the ones specified?

1. The website is vague, I've offered to help code pages but they aren't interested... but the are 'behind' in updates.

2. the L is a custom... basically a D10 loaded with a single 15 I think

3. They will DEFINITELY put a coax driver in a S15B-D. Any dealer can order it for you.

I'm going crazy... about 2 weeks until my D12-B is here :hyper:

[edit] I ordered a D12 in natural... yes most any cab can be ordered in natural [/edit]
[edit2] I also specified horizontal orientation and black plastic corners on mine[/edit2]

bag end's website leaves a Lot to be desired. very annoying...

the s15l-d is listed only on the price sheet, not in the product descriptions. i found it only by accident! it's 22x18.5x18.5d. the standard s15l is 18x18x15d, the s15d 22x18.5x24d

they're very receptive to custom configurations, drop 'em a line
