Bag End Stack in the House!

Bag End also specs their cabs as "200 watts continuous sine wave power handling" which I believe is much more stressing than a normal bass guitar signal - I'd compare them to other cabs rated 3-400 watts RMS. I was initially skeptical because of the 200W rating, but these cabs handle power as well or better than a lot of other cabs with much higher ratings - keep in mind that other factors such as xmax play a big part in the overall equation - the wattage rating is just for thermal - most cabs fart out (run out of xmax) before thermal. As I mentioned before, a pair of S15-D's handled my GK2001RB very, very well, and I like to crank it.

fabulous! The speaker baffle dimension and the outside depth would be way cool. I can pretty much interpolate from there ... rough calc's are about 1.9 cu ft for the standard cab and 3 cu ft for the LD (based on the 5 higher and 3 deeper est). That puts it on par with a lot of 1x15's out there - TL-606 isn't far off of that. The 3015 Eminence driver is happy in a ported cab of between 2.4 and 2.8. The 3015 LF would like 3.2 ... real world - ya know away from the number cruncher types is that 10 to 15 deviation % is pretty much dead on ... just don't say that around the uber-serious DIY crowd ...

I was thinking one day, while looking at the S15D stack - you know ? This isn't all that much smaller than my old 2x15 Sunn of long ago - and that cab was great! My first brush with a pair of D140's - and probably a big reason that I still dig 15's (as well as 10's ...)

Anyhow thanks for the dim's and maybe for the inspiration as well! Really good dim's and I owe you a beer, I'm gueesing but based on your avatar I'm guessing that isn't proscribed by those up above ... The Missus and I are in SLC or the Wasatch for a couple of weeks each winter there is snow, which is most so that is not an empty threat ;~) I think she's doing a camp at the Canyons in January.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by speaker baffle, but here's the outside dimensions and some pics to get you an idea.

H= 18"
D= 18.25"
W= 22.25"

Pics of the front, back, and top to get you an idea of what's up:

Finally, just because I felt like it again, the stack altogether (except the T-Funk has been replaced by a LMII):

currently i am using a Q10BX-D in combo with a S18B-D.
never will go back to something else.
i run them bi-amped with an alembix FX-1 preamp/DBX 160 compressor combi, through a power-amp of 2 x 1100 Watts @ 8 Ohm.
fenomenal sound, huge, clean and butt-shaking.

Has anyone ever compared the BE S15 with an Aguilar GS112?
I know they are apple to oranges...

I am a Bag End fan and love there gear , using different cabs over the years.

I currently use the Aggy GS112s. I love the low end of these cabs but im missing the mids and clarity that BE has..

My concern is that the BE is ported on the rear, And with the Rear port on the BE i was wanting to know if they retain a deep low end that can project into a room the way the aggy GS112s do. I know a pair of these thing can shake the bathroom stalls in a bar gig .... no joking.

And i was thinking or replacing these with a pair of BE S15 cabs.. So if anyone has direct experience i would love to hear about the GS112 vs BE S15 cabs..

Always wanted to try those cabs together. Must sound big and make your chiropractic rich:D .
Ahhh, the schlepping at my age...:rollno:
Seriously, I've been considering a Q10BX-D for some time, but have not decided mainly because of the weight.
Prompt help would be MUCH appreciated as I am about to pull the trigger!
Can any one comment on using 1xQ10BX-D vs. 2xD10BX-D's ????
Wonder if they'd sound about the same and push the same amount of air?

It's heluva rig! I use this setup all the time (except I have the 12"deep d10xd).

I use one cab 95% of the time. I have two guitars, a keyboard, a trumpet and a VERY heavy handed drummer, and I'm usually getting the "turn down" signal from the sound guy.

It's a real nice feeling to carry such a small package into a show.

Generally speaking my band is a headliner, and when we play shows with other bands we usually backline and share our gear. The bass players from the other bands take a look at my tiny little cab, and at the marshall and fender stacks across the stage and always get worried, but by the time they play through it, they're sold.

When I bring two of these, I usually bring it to fill a big stage (point one to stage right, the other to stage left).

My advice, if you want to optimize schlep vs. tone, is to look for a used d10xd. If you find you need more, add a d10bxd. The two pair well together, then you can have a lot of versatility in your rig too, but start with one and see. It'll put out just fine for you, unless you are doing stadium shows or something like that.

Smallest bestest rig in the world!!!

:eek: ^ He does exist!

yeah i do. for those of you who wondered about two years ago i lost a high paying job i had for about 19 years. I slimmed down my lifestyle, sold a TON of gear, went bankrupt, and ended up getting married about a year ago. This meant i couldn't afford internet (gasp!):scowl:

still don't have it yet but i've been hijacking computers as i can. :ninja:

and yeah, bag end speakers rule. i still use two s15 and two s12 cabs. (usually just one of each). I've tried almost every other one they make and i've never heard a bad one.

has anyone done an S15B vs Aggy GS112 Comparison.. The search feature does not support the "vs"...

yup many have. i had both and they were both great.

overall, the bag end 15 is good deal louder. using both together in a mono rig the aggie got buried a bit. this has to do with sensitivity and how they are voiced. the be has a lot more mids, the aggie has kind of a scooped mid sound and more lows and highs (that is if the be does not have the coax tweeter).

the aguilar wins in the lows department. to get it to cut through in the mix i found i had to boost midrange a bit and/or power it well. the bag end has decent lows but no one will accuse it of being the best reggae cabinet on the planet. it does cut through the mix very well without eq.

honestly i think they are both great cabinets and i'd use either w/o hesitation.

I had the GS112/S-15X combo for a while and ultimately didn't like it. The cabs were just so different from each other, and the BE completely dominated the 112 IMO. I picked up an Aggie S210 later, and that had phasing problems with my BE. I finally got another BE 15 and haven't looked back since.

As a side note: Glad to see you're still around IvanMike, I used to reference your amp FAQs all the time, and your BE reviews helped push me in the direction of those cabs.

I have a Bag End stack (S15-D and S15-XD) and a Clarus 1 S III amp. I use this rig with a Lakland 44-02 as well as my stand-up bass. For smaller venues I leave the coax speaker at home.

These cabs are great - easy enough for me to handle on my own (I'm a shorter woman), without giving up tone.

I'm curious about other configurations I might try too ...

The other BE combos I liked were - Q10X(deep cab) paired with an S18, that was a monster, the D12 is a nice warm standalone cab. I loved your 15 stack for a few years too...
