Balanced XLR socket not working

Hi there,

I have the chance to purchase a used TC Electronics BH250 combo amp for a really good price. I will be going to test drive it before purchase but I was informed that the balanced XLR socket does not seem to be working. This is the only issue with the amp. I understand using I could simply use a DI box to use a PA but curious if this would be an expensive repair to fix?

It probably isn't expensive to repair at fee value, but thinking about shipping it to TC or finding an electronics shop willing to repair it, I'd plan to buy an external DI or mic the amp (or both, if you have the opportunity).

I'm curious to hear about TC bass amp users' experience with TC's repair experience. I'll just say, without much detail that mine has been less than positive, but the repairs didn't involve bass amps, but other items.

Or, it could be something entirely different causing the symptom... have you verified that it is not working or is it possible that the previous owner had some sort of operator error? Always verify that there is in fact a fault first.

Hi neighbour! :)

The problem could be as simple as a burned out I/C Opamp. A very small cost item. This could even have been caused by exposure to Phantom power from the PA mixer. I would have thought though that TCE would have designed for this when building the amp.

On many of the Mackie products, it was a "I can kind of see it but just can't get to it without total disassembly" situation.
