Balsamico - A Food Diary

I've seen it on a TV show, it was 300 years old.
:jawdrop: Thats a bummer man. The guy who brewed that stuff had a few generations of family pass before anyone was able to taste the final conclusion. The initial tasting event wouldnt even have the option to mention how our beloved ancestor master vinegar chemist would have enjoyed the desired effect. How would they know if he would approve or not?. They just could not know that.

HA!, I'll have to cash in a lot of empty beer bottles to buy hundreds of dollars worth of vinegar.

If you go to this place you just might find some really "green" products: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Oh, wait...that's actually pretty much every other storefront in OR and WA these days. But even PBR cans are worth ten cents now.

Is it always aged?. Is that the secret to better Balsamico?. This thread starts off with you mentioning you had 75 year old vintage. That sounds cool.
The best Balsamico is not actually a vinegar but an aged wine (but has vinegar qualities to it). It is consumed as a digestif in very small quantities.

The only vinegar Ive ever known. I guess there really is more to life than meets the common dinner table. Or foldable dinner stand for watching tv.

I drink a bit of balsamic now and then.
Now I need to try this stuff. I often slam small shots of the traditional vinegar until my stomach burns but I think Balsamico would burn a hole right through me. I have no moderation governor for most things tasty. There really isnt a need to eat 3 full size dinners in one sitting but I do it because of the taste even though Im already full after the first plate. Plus Im always afraid that could be my last meal for a while. Or ever.

Thanks for the link. Book marked.

If you're curious about any of the weirdo ones I'll be happy to go over there and check them out. It's a fun tasting room scenario. They often have seasonal ones that aren't listed on the web store too. Some are definitely better for drinking than cooking/munching purposes.

It tastes great!
Hard to explain what it tastes like.
Grapie, sweet, oak, complex full bodied.
I suck at describing it.
What say @fcleff ?
