Band Notice at Venue

Over the years, the dozens of dingy bars and clubs clubs we played, we fully expected that the "backstage" areas and toilets were gonna be horrific, filthy dens of despair. And we were rarely disappointed.....
Far more surprising was the times we played "nice" venues. Theaters, arenas, and upscale,sometimes famous clubs, where the backstage/dressing room areas were JUST AS BAD!!
Small wonder that big headlining acts would most often completely give over these areas to us opening acts, and only use their tour busses prior to and after shows.
I've been in some nasty locker rooms, but musicians make athletes look like Suzy Homemaker. :woot:

- To always leave a clean stage

I want to see the space they're referring to. My first thoughts were that it's in some sort of green room, but the staples are rusty, which makes me think it's outside.

Rough. Reminds of that scene in Crazy Heart where Jeff Bridges is playing a gig in a bowling alley and abruptly leaves to go vomit out back.

then again, I once played a college house show gig that was absolutely packed, wall to wall and sweaty ceiling. Towards the end of our set our singer vomited mid-lyrics, definitely getting it on some of the audience. Dude just kept right on playing, and the crowd just kept right on dancing. It was both disgusting and awesome to see.

I played in punk-type bands in Chi in the '85 - '95, was never an issue.

Some of the backstage areas were old and peeling, but trash and, eh, other effluvia were never an issue in 50-100 shows.

Of course, I didn't check out every bathroom ... tried to not use 'em, actually.

Glen Matlock tells in his book about a newspaper paying The Sex Pistols to smash up a hotel hallway for a story. The reporter rang the hotel the next day, ready to write his dirt. 'Is it true the Sex Pistols smashed up your foyer?'
'Yes. The damage was paid for and it was great fun'.
The paper couldn't run the fake story. Good.

Like you, we cleaned up after ourselves.
But we had wife's and girlfriends and they weren't going to let us slip up without cleaning up. We had double cover on us :) Even after the "Idiot Check" a couple of the ladies would make a sweep after everyone was in the car.
Got to love da ladies :thumbsup:
