Bands that need to retire

As long as the fans keep showing up why retire? getting a chance to see some living legends is still pretty incredible in this digital age and to be honest I don't see many groups who they can pass the torch to anyway.

Case in point: My 12 year old granddaughter is a huge Def Leppard fan. Hope they get back around this area so she will have the chance to catch them live, and how long have they been gigging?

Van Halen puts out their best album ever imo(2012), then..does a half hearted tour for a few months, with Dave and Eddie fighting over control of the beat.

I watched almost all of their live shows on youtube. The impression I get from David Lee Roth is..."I'll sing when I want". That doesn't really jive, since they're all being led around on a leash with a live click track. Dave's singing behind the beat just a little too much for me to tolerate. We get it, Dave. You know how to sing "in the blues pocket", or whatever. Deep stuff. Forgetting the lyrics out of disrespect to the band, isn't helping much neither.

Dude better start singing better. He's lost his jump, and is running out of charm.

I agree.
I can see why people might think an act like The Who should quit, though, in the sense that half the band is dead and the living ones are sort of tarnishing the band's reputation at this point.

IDK - if they book a show and people come or if they release something and people buy it I don't see a problem. I don't see a problem if an artist releases something and nobody buys it. Don't we always say around here that we should do our art to please ourselves?

That being said I really can't knock anyone for continuing on - even if I'd like some of 'em to go away.

I don't know why any bands need to retire??
If they love doing it still, then keep going I say.

If anyone told me to stop only because of my age, I'd tell them to @&$% off. I play music for me.

If you don't like them or their new music, then don't buy their CD's or see their concerts. If you think they should retire because of their age, it says more about you and how you judge music.

As one of the older guys here - I can say I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Heart, and Blue Oyster Cult in recent years. Sure they only appear at Casinos, Fairs, and large taverns, but it brings back a lot of memories of good times ... when we were young.

Let them rock as long as they can.
