Barefaced 69'er thread

I am only assuming it will take that long. Alex said that the cab should be available by the end of this month. It looks like they are taking roughly 8 weeks to get the normal production cabs out so, I think november, even though that sucks, would be a good rough estimate. Im sure that it will be worth it once the cab arrives though. It better be. :smug:

Alex also said that they have one built so, this thing isn't vaporware. He just said that it was ugly so he didn't want to let pictures of it out and get complaints about it before a finished product was ready. I can understand that. That doesn't mean that there shouldn't be some sound samples and comparisons to other well known cabs though. Even ugly girls can be hot in the dark!

Fair enough. I was really wondering why there wasn't any picture of it.

+1

:D LOL

Alright Alex, you need to start working the elve's in your shop harder so that I can get one of these cabs. I was really hoping to have one for the bigger gigs that I just did and now only have a few electric ones left for awhile. So, can you help a brother out? :)

I just got done jamming at my buddies house and got to compare is old vintage ampeg 4x10 (which I believe has the same drivers as the 8x10) to my bergantino nv610. The ampeg has WAY more top end. The mids seemed fairly flat and the bottom end was alittle compressed and maybe just alittle muddy. Thats kind of how I remembered the one vintage 8x10 that I tried sounded. The berg had a much toothier upper mid range and a tighter, punchier low end but, sounded very dark in comparison. Hopefully the 69'er will be an even mix of the two. That would be THE cab for me. My swell b-peg sounded awsome through the old ampeg cab.

The original CTS drivers in the flatbacks were pretty guitarish drivers. They slotted themselves in a mix so nicely pretty much by falling off around 70hz. The cabs sort of "highpassed themselves" that way and gave space for the low drums. Nowdays, sound engineers highpass the bass channel on the board, the flatbacks did it by themselves. When you mic them, that's what you get.

I actually like a modern sound kick drum with a low thud, a high click and no mids. It lets my sealed cab sit in between those two frequencies and not fight with each other. In my band I let the kick cover the real bottom end, I sit above that and that guitar just kind of steps on everything.:smug: Well, at least he doesn't have that huge low end that alot of guys go for which messes with the bass and kick. The only reservation I have about this cab is that it's only 13" deep which will be tippy with anything but a 100lb tube head sitting on it. But, for the sound that it should have, I'll come up with something.

I borrowed my buddies vintage 4x10 for more comparison. After bringing it home from his studio and looking it over, it is in fact a 4x12 with one blown driver. My brother has one with all drivers working and it actually sounds great for bass, right along the same lines as this 69'er should be.

Why can't they come up with a pic? Aren't they making any yet? Boy, if someone around here did that, you know what would be said!!

There was a lot of early criticism of the early models because the hand applied finish wasn't very well done, if they put up a pic of the prototype that's probably had various tinkerings done, it will bring all of that up again.

Sealed cab, Sealed cab, Sealed cab, Sealed cab. Well, we've went past another estimated due date on this cab. Alex said that they are almost done with the switchover to the cnc machine for the other cabs and then will be on to the 69'er. Im thinking that my november guess isn't going to be too far off. I hate waiting so long for the cab but, I am comforted in knowing that Alex will definitely make sure everything is right before he releases a product. It will be a superior cab, Im sure.

I recently withdrew my order. It's not because I think this cab won't be exactly what I want, it's because of non sound related stuff. My band uses in-ears so I put my cab out front with the pa and we set a JBL prx 3-way on top of it and the 13" depth and light weight of this cab would make it very tippy. So, I wanted a deeper cab and also a taller cab because I've played some gigs lately where I would have been heard better if the cab was taller and the sound got past peoples bodies up front. Alex was great and answered almost every question I had and I was really excited to get one of these. The estimated release date is WAY off at this point but, Im sure that when the cab arrives, nobody will be complaining. Im sure it will be right on.
