Red Sox over Angels - who did you think I would pick?
Indians over Yankees - " " " , but I like the Indians pitching
Red Sox over Indians - see Red Sox over Angels


Rockies over Phils - I have to admit I didn't watch much of the playoff, I am really more of a Sox fan that a fan of the game. Both great stories in how they got there so at least one of the Comeback Kids will make it to the NLCS. This is more of a pick for a team that has not won a playoff series yet.
Cubs over D-backs - it has been a long time coming for the Cubbies

Cubs over the Rockies - see Cubs over the D-backs


Red Sox over the Cubs - I would like to see the Cubs win; just not over the Red Sox.

The 2nd best sequence would have the Cubs over the Yankees with the Yankees winning the first two, the Cubs coming from behind winning the third, then the Yanks winning the fourth in a rout and the Cubs winning the next 3.

Question for you National League fans -
I think that the American League teams are pretty evenly matched - I can't say that there is a clear favorite or underdog in the bunch. Can the same be said for the NL?

I think so. I think there are another 3 or 4 teams that could make a respectable showing who didn't make the playoffs (yes, I am somewhat of a begrudged Braves fan). I thought the Padres would be the first team in the playoffs in the NL. I think of the ones that did make it, the Phils and D-Backs have the strongest chances, but it's really hard to say. It seems Chicago just can't get the breaks sometimes, but Arizona is not a good team. They're a bad team that wins alot. :confused: The Rockies can carry some momentum, but geeze, they've got to be worn out after the last two weeks.

My picks/ideals:

Red Sox over Angels
Indians over Yanks
-----------------------
Red Sox over Indians
=============
Red Sox over Phils
=============
Phils over D-Backs
-----------------------
Phils over Rockies
D-Backs over Cubs

I'd also like to see the Cubs win the WS over the Indians, but I don't think the Cubs or Red Sox are going to let that happen. Hell, I'd just like to see the Cubs make it past the first round, but as I said, they just can't seem to catch a break 99% of the time.

well, as long as we're making picks:

Sox over the Angels in 5
Yanks over the Indians in 4:D

Phillies over Rockies in 4
Cubs sweep D'backs

Yankees over Sox in 6:D
Cubbies beat Phillies in 7

Yankees over Cubs in 5:D

If the Yankees don't make it, believe it or not, I think I'll root for the Red Sox.:)

Soxtober is what the Sox cable channel (New England Sports Network) calls it. The station is owned by the Sox and the marketing under the new ownership has generally been much better.

A little off-topic - at the Sox rally on Monday, both Principal Owner John Henry and one of the limited partners Charles Steinberg were playing Strats along with the Standells (Dirty Water) and Peter Tork (I'm a Believer) of the Monkees. I'm waiting for Henry to pull out his bass (he plays or at least he used to); and leave the geetars to Peter Gammons, Theo Epstein and Dr. Steinberg.

:D I could definitely see Lowell on the drums in a Charlie Watts sort of way. Shill and Beckett (EDIT - Paps, not Beckett) as aces are well cast as dueling leads.

I'm not sure about Pedroia on bass - I was thinking more along the lines of Tek (the Captain) or Coco (laid back and cool) or even Cora (valuable but barely noticed) on bass. Youk on keys, maybe?

I think that is Papelbon, not Beckett. And I agree about Pedrioa, though second basemen are kind of akin to bassists. Nobody really talks about the second basemen in baseball, but take them away and expose that hole, and you will notice they are gone. :D

I like Sox fans. Typically, they're not much different than I. they like baseball, beer, and they work hard. I've gotten use to the "Yankees suck" thing that they always seem to want to stick in my face and I always end up turning it into a conversation with whoever said it.

the only thing I can't figure out is why the Sox fans chant it at Fenway games when the Sox are playing someone else.:eyebrow: what's up with that?

I've been to hundreds of games over the years at fenway park, and I can't remember one time when someone has done that for no particular reason, and only a couple of times have I seen it done when the yankees weren't in town. One time I remember it happening when two rowdy yankee fans where at fenway watching a sox/a's game I think. They were wearing full yankee garb and were just there to start crap. As they were being walked out by security, fans started chanting "yankees suck". This was back in 2002 I think. The other time I remember it happening at a game against a team other than the yankees was when people noticed a change on the scoreboard of the yankee's game. I can't remember if they took the lead or lost it, but it was a meaningful game for some reason and fans started chanting.

Anyways, a red sox fan hating the yankees is as normal as a yankee fan hating the red sox. Each one thinks the other is the bad guy. Yankee fans have gloated for years, and it irritates sox fans. In turn, sox fans irritate yankee fans with incessant chanting. :D

when I went to a Sox/Angels game back in september of 2003 it happened and I was watching a Sox game the other night you could hear it. I think it happens more than you're saying. You know, your organization is kind of obsessed with the Yankees:D

I'm sure it does, but I hardly even notice it anymore if it does. Of course we are obsessed with the Yankees. The Sox have played second best to the yankees for a very, very long time. Fans don't just ignore that. There have been many seasons where the Sox have lost to Yankees in many different ways. The Yankees have won many world series over the years as you know, and the Sox haven't. Even though the sox have had record years in the past, they always came up short to Yankees. And Yankee fans don't exactly let us forget about it...so that creates animosity between the two different fans. So for many years, what did a Sox fan have? Nothing more to do than chant anti-yankee slogans.

Of course, with their new found success over the past few years since 2004, a whole different mentality is there. Sox fans are finally happy we won a world series, but Yankee fans still won't let us forget that they dominated the last century. First it was the curse, and "1918", then when that was done, it was simply "we have more rings that you". This past year, all I heard was "1978". What do I have to say in response to this? Yankees suck. :D
