Yeah, I'm just a perfect game freak. No hitters mean a lot less to me (not to diminish their value to whomever throws one of course).
Amen, and I'd add that it's not just Sox-Yanks games. Baseball in gen'l has slowed down a ton over the years. I just prefer good D and pitching over big offense.
And how 'bout them Yanks? A season high winning streak of 3 games.
I like good D - but I like to see a little of everything when I go to game.

Hey... those Anaheim Angels have been staying above .500 for a while now. The 'big bats' seem to be getting more focused this 2007 season... and more than that - consistant! I watched the first two games they've played on this road trip.. they did a number on the 'Cards' in St. Louis. Game #3 with them is tomorrow June 10.

That is a nice little streak. Not only have the bats returned to where everyone thought they would be, it looks like the bullpen is doing better (not sure if that is where folks projected them or if they are having an especially good stretch that should come to an end soon.
The next few weeks before the All-Star break will be interesting to watch. The Yanks have a difficult stretch coming up (including some of my new second-favorite teams: Angels and Mets) if the Yanks are below 10 back by the break; then the race is on. If they drift back to 12-14; then it means that the Sox have found their bats and are not dropping series.

Verlander thru a no hitter today, and he struck out 12. He was clocked at 102 mph with his fastball in the ninth!
The Tigers have what everyone wants - good young arms. 102 MPH is just sick. This is the only way you would see me stand at the plate -

Looks like the Yanks didn't want to wait for August this time around. Sox are still aren't swinging the way they should and the pitching is not going to be there every night.
I'd like to see the boys give Beckett a lead to work with tonight. The pitchers are going to be exhausted trying to win with 2 or 3 runs of support every night.
Last time I was in the states wasn't during the season and I spew that I could get to see a big game. It's one of the cool things about the US.
Hopefully, you'll make it back to the US and catch a game. Australia is one of the few places outside of North America, Japan, Korea, Columbia and Venezuela that produces major leaguers. According to this website there are nine active ballplayers from Down Under with at least some Major League experience although a few of them might be playing in the minors right now. Two are shown as having been born in Melbourne

Yeah.. sorry the Angels were messing with the Yanks.. But a Yankees/Angels series is a lot of fun and plenty of unexpected stuff always happens.. Vlad is pretty neat.. He has NO education, but what a lucky find he was for Anaheim as his bat is all over the place, doing good things.And the Angels have one of the most exciting players around in Vlad G! What a hitter!
They've got good pitching too, and they always seem to knock the Yanks around. Come to think of it, I don't like them one bit.

Can't say how it's all going to play out, but it suddenly is a little more interesting in the AL East, huh?
It is more interesting; but, I was happier when the Sox were running away with it.

1 Manny homerun and a combined shutout from Dice K/Oki/Paps. The bats are still pretty limp (except for last night) but no complaints about the pitching. I see Roger lost a 2-0 game - he is pitching better than I thought he would.
On a cheerier note, Bonds has not sullied Fenway Park with a HR, yet. Oki struck him out looking - he didn't swing at a single pitch.
The SF fans came to Boston in large numbers. Are they following Bonds or did they just want to experience Fenway?
Let me know if they go to the Stadium? Do they go to NY when the Giants play at Shea?

/ The bats are starting to come alive so I can finally back away from the window ledge.I got a kick out of the umps in the first game - Bonds hit a towering fly down the right field line that went over the Pesky pole - the ump called it foul but it was a pretty close call that was the proverbial coin flip - if it had been ruled fair the Sox really couldn't complain about it.
Two other things on umps - in the 1-0 game yesterday, the strike zone was huge. While both pitchers pitchers pitched well - neither of them are that good.
Burk - if Verlander is ever scheduled to pitch with Charlie Reliford behind the plate make sure you go (or at least watch) the game. The hitters will not stand a chance and you may witness another no-no.
The other thing is that they are getting a little touchy - Ortiz got thrown out in the first inning yesterday for arguing balls and strikes and for throwing his helmet a little too hard into the dugout - who knew there were acceptable levels of helmet throwing?
I'm not a big fan of interleague play although for at least the second year in row my Sox [EDIT: should not will] have a winning record against the NL.
(EDIT: I forgot about the series with San Diego; at worst the Sox will be .500 - they are currently 9-5 interleague)

1. I like the DH - I don't like to see pitchers hit or bunt; although it is pretty cool when they actually do make decent contact or even get a hit.
2. NL pitchers should have an advantage over AL pitchers as they do regularly get up to hit. I wonder if anyone has ever looked at the actual stats to see if this really is the case.
3. Although the games count - I don't feel any rivalry with San Francisco or Colorado. Atlanta is Boston's "natural rival" because the Braves left Boston for Milwaukee in the 50's. I've lived in Massachusetts nearly my whole life, I have yet to meet anyone who misses the Boston Braves.

I don't typically mind interleague play, but the Pirates are in Seattle right now...the game doesn't even start here until 10:00 PM tonight! That's a little late for my taste.
I hear you, this year the Eastern teams had an extra West Coast trip. New England Sports Network has started doing something interesting - they edit the late game into a 1 hour broadcast and show it in the morning as "Breakfast with the Sox"
Folks have looked at it -
One study looked at it from the start of Interleague to 2001 and the NL pitchers were about .020 better batting; but this was offset by the AL DHs being more productive. The upshot being whoever was home had a little added advantage over the normal intraleague home field advantage.
However, last year the AL pitchers may have outhit the NL pitchers.
Looking at the Sox over the last four years - 03 and 04 they were worse than the average NL pitching staff (.105 avg compared to .160 or so) but in 05 and 06 they hit over .200 with 2 or 3 RBIs and runs scored each year in a little over 20 ABs.
Beckett hit a line drive double which drove in a run and he scored tonight as well so the Sox pitchers are 3 for 12 (.250) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored so far with 4 games to go.
