I say let the little toad use a pick. He may think he has the advantage using it. But I don't think it will help him. Picking a guitar and picking a bass are two different things. Then he will look like even a bigger guitard when he falls on his face.

back story: we were locked in a secluded cabin for a week & a half so we got a bit bored. so it was definitly my first battle.

+1, I was thinking EXACTLY this.

Also, maybe play the bassline from "Everyday People" (sly and the family stone) for 10 min straight, keeping the tempo the same and the feel good. Record it to hear who messes up more.

Include the use of a metronome somewhere in all this.Holding a steady beat is rather difficult for guitards. An odd signature,say a 5/4 like "Time Out" by Brubeck,would also be fun.Hammer the crap out of him,Son.

FWIW, I think it's pretty silly, but I'm old enough to(usually)not care what someone else thinks of me. Unless it's my wife. That woman pisses me OFF. /

+1 to the odd-time signature thing, but I would work out a 5/4 riff to play over a 4/4 drumbeat, or something similar. Any signature would work, but 5/4 and 9/8s are favorites of mine.

Make sure you have a drummer that "gets" where you're going, though.
