Just kidding. depends on the type of metal. speed metal, I'd go ibby for the fast neck, groovy metal, I'd grab a warwick for the extra thickness. so on and so forth. try out basses while playing your lines and the one which feels the best is the best bass for metal

Avenged Sevenfold uses a MM Stingray, Slipknot uses an Ibanez ATK.

Schecter basses (and guitars) are the best axes for metal, imo. Asides from that, the Ibanez ATK is also a great way to go.

I tried a Gibson thunderbird a while back. I was very disappointed, as I couldn't get it to sound as mean as I wanted it to. I'll stick to Rics.

On the cheap side, I have always had good experience with Schecter. Every band I was in made me play my Schecter Stiletto Custom 4. It never felt right in my hands or to my ears. It sounded good in the mix, but alone, UGH.

I dig my Fenders and Rickenbackers more. The USA P-Deluxe is all I'd ever need for metal. Ever.
