Bass Choruses that Dont Suck

seriously,

i like my choralflange, and love how the low end holds together, and how impervious it is to the high turns of my sadowsky onboard preamp. but frankly, i barely use the flange side, and would like to reclaim some board space.

any others you guys dig that'll handle active basses and is rather compact?

"Don't suck" and "do suck" is very subjective.

I for instance think that the BOSS CEB-3 Bass Chorus "sucks".
Although many here use one and are happy with it.

What you are going to get now is people listing their favourite chorus pedals, still you have to try them out to hear what's good to your ears.

My favourites although I don't use much chorus:
BOSS CE-5 (I A/Bed it thoroughly with the CEB-3 and the CE-5 came out a winner for me.)
EHX Stereo Electric Mistress
Line 6 Space Chorus (surprisingly good on bass IMO)
That Ibanez Tone Lok Tri-Chorus pedal is pretty cool, but hard to use on bass.


Some guys here absolutely love a cheap-ass Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus. For it's price worth a try maybe.


I have never come across the problem (or heard about) that an an active bass doesn't work well with a chorus pedal.
If anything all my pedals seem to perform better with my active bass than my passive. Might just be that my active sounds better.

+1 to thinking the boss bass chorus "sucks," as well as +1 to it being very subjective..

i dont think youll be unhappy with the analogman mini chorus, with the deep mod / toggle switch.. they go for somewhere around $200, if i remember correctly..

For years I have had an Alessis rack mount Delay as the only other thing besides my amp in the rack. I find the Chorus to be tottaly excellent and use it on ballads, smooth Jazz type things and at other times when I feel like it. I occasionally use the Flange and Doubler for solos and it has some synthy type patches on it as well all preset so I can just hit and go...no foot switch just presets. Very lush and fat sounding more so than most stompboxes. Though I am putting together a pedal board again. LOL

I liked my EHX Small Clone, also the Visual Sound H2O. Haven't ever really tried out any others (at least not seriously enough). I had the Small Clone for around 3 years and only sold to upgrade. Was gonna get a Eventide ModFactor, but ended up with a TC Electronic G-Force which covers nearly all my FX needs and as it's TC Electronic, it has a great chorus!!

I use an Ashdown bass chorus, and that really sucks, so stay awaaaaaaaay from the ashdown stuff.

Perfect Bass Chorus: Analogman Standard or Mini Chorus with Deep Toggle Switch or Deep Setting and 18 volt power.

I use an EHX Stereo Electric Mistress, and it sounds pretty good, IMO. The filter matrix mode is also a pretty cool addition.

I'm using an early 80s Ibanez/Maxon CS9 and have no plans to replace it. The newer CS9 Pro is supposed to be more anti suck with a blend knob.

I have a DOD FX62, MXR M-134 stereo chorus, digitech XBC, and an old Boss CE-2B and the FX62 chorus is my favorite out of all them. I recently did a buy it now on ebay at $25 to get a second one to put on another board, I think it's a great chorus and also a great value.

Subsribed. I currently have a Boss CEB-3 on my IEM board. I never use it because, well, it "sucks". However, when I use it through my rig for non-IEM gigs, it sounds really good.

I have been using my MXR Carbon Copy w/mod for a slight chorus instead of the Boss. Works for now. Strongly considering the Analogman.

I thought my Boss CEB-3 sucked, until I got a EBS UniChorus. To me, the Boss sounds much better...it's all subjective, man. You just gotta try everything out before you buy. I like EMGs, many don't... some like Barts, I don't.

I have 5 "chorus": Maxon CS505, Diamond Halo, Yamaha Magicstomp, TC Nova Modulator & Jacques Prisoner...IMHO none of them suck bass.
But these days, if I want chorus I will use Jacques Prisoner delay. The Magicstomp is my first choice, but it's dead now.... :-(

Visual Sound H2O is a good chorus. I liked it better than the Boss. Those are the only pedals I've tried.

The only way any chorus sounds good to me is on the higher frequencies of a bass. For instance I have an old MXR chorus that I would run on one pup of the stereo Ric out. To me chorus sounds too muddy on the lowest end frequencies.
