Bass Choruses that Dont Suck

Maxon CS 9Pro doesn't suck at all. In fact, it gives back, (?), also re: Boss, the CE-5 is better than the CEB-3, imo. Visual Sounds H2O also doesn't suck while the Ehx Clone theory does. Took me quite a few buys before landing on the Maxon, and I hardly use chorus either, (but believe you've GOT to have one).

I've owned two Maxon choruses (the CS550 and CS9) and the Analogman Mini Chorus wired in deep mode. All three do a fantastic job maintaining low end and giving thick chorus. I preferred the Maxon models, only because they have a Delay Time control which adds a totally different dimension over the standard Speed/Depth controls. Jae, if you've got access to one, check out Maxon stuff for choruses and phasers... they definitely know what they're doing at the Maxon shop.

Low battery maybe? Handling low notes requires more power than high notes, and if the power was low, I could see that doing it.

Neither of my Maxon choruses have had that problem, and handling of the low B is always one of my data points when auditioning a pedal. Any other Maxon users have observations?

Yeah, might have been a low battery. I need to go back and give it a work out again. It had a very nice price.

I use a lot of chorus, way more often than I use fuzz/OD so I like to have a few to choose from although I've leaned up a bit on the number of chorus' I have. The line 6 space chorus is exellent on bass and I like being able to change the speed with tap tempo and the vibrato is an added bonus. My favorite chorus sound when I'm not using other functions on the pedal is the "detune" settings on my whammy iv. You wouldn't think a pitch shifting pedal would have such a good sounding chorus. Better than any of of the boss IMO

I'm using an early 80s Ibanez/Maxon CS9 and have no plans to replace it. The newer CS9 Pro is supposed to be more anti suck with a blend knob.

Same here... but I do plan on upgrading to the new Maxon someday.

The Boss CEB-3 is a wonderful pedal. One just needs to read the manual, then carefully dial in the settings. My logical conclusion found it to be a very powerful pedal that yields a great many tones. I used a Boss CE-2B for years, and the CEB-3 was a very positive move forward.

The Boss CE5 is like other chorus pedals designed for guitar, it will oscillate all over your mids, and if that is your idea of a nice chorus sound, go for it. Not terribly subtle in my opinion.

Different tastes I guess. I don't expect a chorus to be subtle. I don't use it much but when I use it I want a more over the top effect.

I totally get the tone you are talking about, and I keep an old 80's DOD guitar chorus that I have had since 83 for just that. Cool shimmering, spring like chorus. I love it! So, yeah, dig what you are up to there!

That's why I actually like the CE-5 over the CEB-3.

Seems as if digital amps handle this..

Best solution I've found is a biamp with a chorus only on the high end of the spectrum after a crossover.

I've tried at least 50 chorus.. they all have suckwadappeal.

I'd like to, but it's a little cost prohibitive for me right now. I'm with you on the "someday" part though I was also thinking about hitting up a local pedal tech to see about installing a blend on mine although I'm really happy with it as saturated as it is.

They all sound pretty good until you play one in a band context. Ive owned many and the only one that sounds good live is the Analogman. Make sure you get the deep switch option or one with it fixed.
