I liked your design. The only thing is that maybe the bass will not balance well when you play sitting, putting the short lower horn on your knee. I'd make a model of the bass (scale 1:1) and see it. I did this with my bass, I used something called Polpan here (normally a roof isolation material sold in rectangular shaped plates with a thickness of approx.1", easy to work and shape, I'm sure you can find there too). The upper horn seems long enough for the balance while playing standing.

I can suggest you Link Removed (non-expensive and good quality products, I use their independent bridges and tuning pegs on my custom 6 string too). They sell them on ebay too (at least they were).

I'll also suggest Rhino 3.0. It's a non-expensive (for students) easy to learn 3D software. You can make a 3D model and even put the materials (like metal, wood etc.)
 
Blender is another 3d modelling program that seems really nice. Plus, it's totally free. You'll have to search google for it, but it's there somewhere. It was pretty complicated, though, so you may need time to learn it.

I thought that I was the only one who had realized the awesomeness of insulation foam for full sized modelling. Great minds think alike. ;)
 
So i updated the design a bit edited the lower horn, and the headstock added a two piece bridge and moved the knobs.. I think im going the right way..

Yeah y'know the feeling of loneliness when you see all those mediocrities around :D :D
Just joking don't kill me.

The making of full scale model is also good to see the overall appearance of the bass. Because the thing seems different on paper than the real life (it's like marriage :D :D ).

Rhino, Alias Wavefront and similar ones are designing softwares that you are working with surfaces (the 3D solids are empty inside).

There are also SolidWorks, SolidEdge and CATIA, but all of those are very expensive engineering softwares. Their main advantage is that the solids are not empty and you can assign materials to them. Which means if you are patient enough to assign the proper materials to your bass parts (brass to bridge, ash to body etc.) you can for example see if it will balance good on strap with simulation. Yeah those softwares make crazy things. To use them for designing bass (as far as you are not a big company with thousand units sold) is something like to use MSExcel for making four operations (+-*/) or even worse. Not wrong but a little bit luxury...
Oh wait I only use Excel for summing things :D
 
Hmm, yeah, it works.
Have you reused the curvature of the bottom of the body for both headstock and lower horn? It almost looks that way, and that's sort'a cool! Actually, you could reuse it for teh end of the fingerboard as well! That would maximize the flow of the picture.
It's a pity there are no curved pickups.... But perhaps you should design your own curved bridge?

Mr.M you are right making a 3d model would be overkill.. think i'll just make a fullscale model out of insulation foam instead

Suburban, the shape of the headstock is not a copy of the shape of the lower horn.. but close to. i'll try that shape on the fretboard ending might look cool. It will have wooden pick ut covers matching the fretboard and those don't have to be square. Designing and having a bridge made for me sounds very expensive.. but i might be wrong

well I updated the design again.. widened the body a bit and added some details to the bridge and fingerboard. I think i got real cool

The MK III 6 string angular costs in the region of 98 euro's without a custom tail peice, I have one ordered btw. Though that is for one in black, different colours cost different amounts, email and ask them about it and they'll most likely send you their price list.

For refference the saddles adjust 5mm up/down, 8mm back and forth, and 1 mm either way side to side.

I haven't yet, but will be soon (...hopefully. I haven't emailed yet to see if they ship to the US). I'll let you know how it went once (read as: if) I get all of that worked out.
