what are some of your favorite distortion,OD or fuzz units you've used that had really good low end retention

or one with a 2 band EQ that has a little bass boost?
looking for something that sounds full and modern, not buzzy and fizzy

I'm using a Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian.
Ludicrous amounts of bass retained, and boosted it seems.
It is a 'muff' variant, so take that for what it's worth.
On low gain settings its a pretty smooth overdrive.
But high gain is all VROOOM VROOOM!
Not fizzy or buzzy, unless you turn in the tone knob all the way to the right.

I had one of those and even with all of it's variable controls, i couldn't get a single good sound out of it. on top of that, it 'felt' way too digital to me.

John pretty much just nailed my issue with Source Audio stuff. I tried to like it because of all of the rave reviews, but it just never got me.

I love mine, but it's not a typical distortion. Good for funk and electronica, but not suitable if you want a classic overdrive.

I really love my Ibanez PD-7 Phat Hed. Sounds extraordinary, especially if you're willing to barely get the dirt dialed in. There are seperate low and high eq dials - that thing will destroy small countries.

The MXR M-80 does it for me. I don't notice any unacceptable low end loss.

If you want more of an overdrive, these pedals would be good choices.

Hardwire Tube Overdrive and Valve Distortion are scary good pedals that sell for next to nothing on the used market. Such a shame. Tons of headroom and retains low end nicely. Can even add some.

Darkglass B3K holds the bottom end together like no other pedal I've ever used.

DMB Bumble is another pedal with crazy low end retention that is sadly overlooked. There's one in the classifieds for cheap right now:
