Title says it all. I have a used squier jazz bass in sunburst and a dirt cheap cort bass amp. I'm looking to buy a distortion pedal. I have a eventual budget about 125 dollars. Brand does not matter. Not looking for a specific bassist tone or things like that just want some decent dirt. Any tips?

I will recommend what has already been given. THe MXR Bass Dist and the BLower Box. What great dist pedals. Both modeled after the Rat sound. I always thought the GK Diesel Dawg was awesome too, just harder to find. Not too expensive though.
Used ss/bs TAFM. Be patient, you'll find one in your price range. It'll do the whole range from OD to fuzz, and with the gate switch it'll serve as two pedals in one. Can't be beat as a standalone dirt pedal, IMO.
I second the recommendation for the MXR M85... it's a variant of the rat and Fuzzrocious helped MXR with the design.
theres always the big muff (more of a fuzz tho), if your willing to spend like 10 more bucks, the mxr bass distortion is killer from what I understand, idiotbox blower box is cool to. Id personally go for the mxr tho it sounds killer in the videos ive watched, but I have a big muff and lets face it those are badass and its 80 bucks
I have to go with wpc. Go old school, get a Big Muff Pi and save $45. Those pedals are built like a tank. You'll be surprised just how much equipment can get abused at relatively calm gigs. You ratchet it up Slipknot levels, then you find out why they're called stomp boxes.
not impressed by the Mr Ex demo. got a link to a better one? i personally dislike most of his stuff. combo that with the fact DOD pedals have aways seemed off the mark to my ears, and it will be hard to sway me, but i've opened my mind before. makes no difference to me.
i'll toss in support for the Blower Box. i've got one and it's stayed on the board longer than some other heavy hitters.
Put in a bid on eBay of 15-20$ on a Little Bear Turbo, which is a Rat clone with 3 modes. Mine's on the way, I won it for 5.25$.

+1 for the Blowerbox. I have one DYI and it can go from overdrive to all out distortion.

Get the Joyo Ultimate Drive to start; it's stupid cheap and based on the Fulltone OCD. It works well on bass. Or try the Joyo American, it has more tone controls.
