I don't know. I have seen some very bad female bassists or very very basic female bassists. Some guitarists who dislike bassists with an ounce of talent, or bassists who are over their heads (they exist, admit it), get their girlfriends to play bass.

^ seen all of the above. Add "and who are more excited about being on stage than learning the music" and you just looped in most rhythm guitarists as well.
