bass fake to get chicks.

That's a big shot of your friend, he's VERY clever, because the average chick can't tell whether it is a bass or a guitar anyway...
in my situation, there's kind of a group of women who hang around the band. Being the bass player made zero impression on them initially. Gradually, through seeing how the music is actually made, they are starting to understand that without the bass player, there is no band.
So my stock is gradually rising.

Being in the pocket gives you that mystic persona. That will typically attract the more laid back, intellectual women. I have found those are more fun. They know whats up, typically aren't clingy and should a relationship ensue... their more stable. When I was out gigging with a band, the guitard gets all the flashy women, but he was always dealing with drama. Sure, I went plenty of shows without love, but when it came around.... quality over quanity

I also gotta agree with the laid back intellectual women part, I hate chicks that you can't talk about important stuff with.
If I were still in my 20s, I'd say, "not a bad idea."

i have a friend that keeps an acoustic guitar in the back of his suv for this exact purpose. You have to know the demographic that it will work on, but ive witnessed it, and it does work

Well, female bassists tend to have this aura of awesome around them. At least that's the case for all those that I personally know.
I don't know. I have seen some very bad female bassists or very very basic female bassists. Some guitarists who dislike bassists with an ounce of talent, or bassists who are over their heads (they exist, admit it), get their girlfriends to play bass.
This was the case with Telephone:
Except that with time she ended up playing very decently.
There is this band in the scene that I have played with a few times. Every time I watch their set it drives me nuts. Their bassist dosnt really play. There is a back track that has the bass parts in it. He just jumps around and trys to look cool and every once in a while remember that he is supposed to be pretending to play.
