Bass-forward tunes? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you "Tink Walks Amok / Thirteen" composed by Frank Zappa (and violinist L. Shankar on "Thirteen"), recorded here by Banned From Utopia, which consisted almost entirely of former Zappa band members.

This arrangement was apparently worked up by bassist Arthur Barrow reconstructing it from a rehearsal tape of a live band arrangement that Zappa himself created, but then abandoned. Note that in addition to Barrow himself on the bass, this recording features the late, great Tom Fowler on violin.

I went down a Crabby Appleton gopher hole tonight and found this beauty from The Millenium. Great bass in the front which begs the question.....what are you favorite bass in the front examples?

Crabby Appleton ... now that's a band name I haven't heard about in years. I actually played a set with Phil Jones who played drums for them. I was in a full time rock bar band that based out of Oskaloosa, Iowa and was living with the guitar player and his wife. His wife was the sister of Phil Jones and he came back to visit his family at Christmas time and sat in with us for a set. He was an amazing drummer. Not in the least bit fancy, but his groove was SOOO good. He made me (and the the rest of the band) sound WWWAAAYYY better than we ever sounded. He played drums on both of Crabby Appleton's two Electra albums, but was playing percussion live and in the studio for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the time and went on to record with Stevie Nicks on "Bella Donna" and Tom Petty (solo) on "Wild Flowers" and "Full Moon Fever" (both of which are VERY well regarded TP albums with the latter album spawning five hits). Super nice guy, too. Check him out ...

And I have to add that the reason I bought my first bass in May of 2020 was hearing, for the 1,521st time.....Silly Love Songs. Paul is bass forward of course... that's when I said f*** the drum kit...I need a bass guitar.
